181917280Hans Georg Nägeli; Longman Clementi & Co.; Clementi Banger Collard Davis & Collard. 1819. 1st Edition . Book Hardcover. Good. Two volumes of musical scores with engraved title pages including Nägeli's German version for the preludes and fugues. The date given is from an inscription; the printing date can be no later. Landscape345x250mm. The binding is half leather and marbled boards which are very worn but sturdy and recently expertly re-attached by Sycamore Bookbinders of Eastwood re-laying the original spines. Text pages yellowed but essentailly in very good condition end-papers creased. Gilt decoratively bordered labels on the front boards: BACH & KEEBLE'S FUGUES on one volume R.Turle on the volume of Keeble's Select Pieces. On the blank leaf after the second engraved title page of the Bach fugues is inscribed James Turle 1819 giving a latest date for the printing. It seems that the two volumes which should obviously be kept together passed from him to R.Richard Turle who arranged for the binding. The second tile page of the Bach correctly describes the fugues as "2er Theil" in case this helps expert dating of this first or early printed edition. Before precise pagination a few words on the Turle family gleaned from the internet. They were in the late 18th century shopkeepers and merchants in the English Somerset town of Taunton and dedicated amateur musicians; several sons born around the turn of the century to Joseph and Elizabeth and to brother I think James became accomplished organists arrangers for organ and composers some of whose work is still played today. They include James 1802-1882 who signed the one volume or was it his father Richard 1790-1867 who will be the R.Turle of these volumes and William 1795-1834. Richard and William sought their fortunes as organists and cathedral choirmasters in London and beyond. Opportunities for professional musicians were not plentiful in England in their day. 15015San Jose CA: Gist and Erdmann / Panoramic Productions 1990. 730 by 740mm. 28.75 by 29.25 inches. Colour printed poster. Pin holes in upper corners water stain to upper left corner trimmed along bottom edge. An entertaining pictorial map poster showing silicon valley in 1991 at the dawn of the internet age. This poster was created as a marketing tool for Seagate Technology a company based in Cupertino that specialises in data storage hardware. Seagate was founded in 1978 by Al Shugart and partners. In 1980 they released their first hard disc drive the ST-506. Their product was a hit and they soon secured the contract to produce disc drives for IBM's newest microcomputer the IBM XT the first personal computer with a built in hard disk. 1991 was a seminal year for the company marking the return of Al Shugart as CEO and the release of their most popular product line the Barracuda HDD the first drive with a 7200 rpm speed. Since then Seagate has remained at the forefront of the hard drive market by continuing to adapt their products to an ever improving and changing market as well as through the acquisition of competitors. We have been unable to find any additional information about this poster's artist P. Bach Phi Art Studio besides noting that they have included their studio's location and telephone number in the map. However Gist and Erdmann and Panoramic Productions whose names are in the imprint are both still in business. Gist and Erdmann provides advertising and marketing across all media for technology companies while Panoramic Productions produces film and video content for corporate communications. This copy has been trimmed along its lower edge and is therefore lacking Seagate's logo the imprint and a calendar for 1991. This is due to the ephemeral nature of promotional posters such as this. Apparently once 1992 came around and the calendar was obsolete the owner decided to cut the calendar off rather than throwing the entire poster out. They must have really like the map! 12909San Jose CA: Gist & Erdmann Inc. / Panoramic Map Productions 1989. Color printed map on sturdy glossy paper 39 x 26.75 inches. Small piece of old cellophane tape in the upper margin tiny puncture in image area near top-middle portion of the map lightly wrinkled previously rolled. Overall in very good condition. A rare and charming 1989 pictorial cartoon map and calendar of Silicon Valley illustrated by Pham Bach Phi one of at least three such works produced by the artist during the tech boom of the late 1980s and early 1990s. Copyrighted and published as a joint venture between Gist & Erdmann Inc. and Panoramic Map Productions the view employs an inviting almost pastoral aesthetic that deliberately downplays the burgeoning urban sprawl brought on by the explosion of the computer industry. By depicting major freeways as rustic roads and rendering corporate headquarters in a modest commercial style the artist fosters a small-town atmosphere in a region that was at the time undergoing a radical industrial transformation.

The poster is populated with company logos and vignettes that celebrate a local economy rapidly centralizing around the technology sector. Notable names include Oracle IBM Apple and Hewlett-Packard practically a "Who's Who" of the era's digital vanguard. The bottom portion of the work is printed with a calendar for the upcoming year of 1990 underscoring the item's original purpose as a functional office product in itself. The year 1990 like most years since the '70s marked the dawn of the digital era in Silicon Valley highlighted by Tim Berners-Lee installation of the first World Wide Web server on a NeXT computer -- Steve Jobs' post-Apple venture -- at CERN. The year also saw the launch of LambdaMOO at Xerox PARC the inaugural Photoshop Invitational in Mountain View and key early developments in 3D graphics and networking that set the stage for the dot-com boom and current computer technologies. He met the Impressionists through his boyhood friend Emile Zola and exhibited with them in 1874 and 1877. For a long time Cezanne's paintings which were invariably rejected by the Salon jury were bought only by a few people. Because of this from 1881 he lived in seclusion in Aix-en-Provence. After his first big exhibition in Paris in 1895 he slowly gained a reputation among adherents of modern art. Product Description: Edited by Felix Baumann Evelyn Benesch Walter Feilchenfeldt Klaus Albrecht Schroder. Essays by Friedrich Teja Bach Felix Baumann Evelyn Benesch Gottfried Boehm and Walter Feilchenfeldt. The story of Cezanne's fame and influence would be incomplete without taking into account the impact of his unfinished paintings. Immediately following his death these works were already held in high regard both by Matisse and the Fauves and by Picasso and the Cubists. This book looks at these paintings a crucial aspect of Cezanne's body of work and thus a signpost in 20th century art that pointed the way to the future right up to Abstract Expressionism. Cezanne aimed to renew painting on the basis of classicism and to establish Impressionism so that it would hold a prominent place in museums. But no other artist has created so many seemingly unfinished works. Examining his paintings and watercolors including the monumental still lifes and the late paintings from Montagne Sainte-Victoire this book shows clearly that what is 'unfinished' in Cezanne's work is not a sketch not a preparatory study. Detailed essays that compare finished paintings with so-called unfinished ones provide a completely new insight into the creative process of the father of modernism. -- with a bonus offer-- .
