1920002014Paris: H. Floury 1920. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. Hansi and Victor Huen. Oblong measuring 32 by 24 cm 12.5 by 9.5 inches. Nostalgic look at Alsatian village of yore and as much of Hansi's writings about the French-ness of the village and demonizing the German occupiers who were only recently driven out at the time this copy was issued. The illustrations exude the naive charm of Hansi's best work whose legacy was to create an enduring visual image of Alsatian life. The decorated cloth boards have soiling and the fabric is worn by the corners and the spine extremities. Inside the pages have age toning but otherwise are clean.

H. 1918277727Paris: H. Fleury 1918. First Edition. Hard Cover. Near Fine binding. Un peu de texte et beaucoup d'images pour les petits enfants allies" by "L'Oncle Hansi" otherwise known as Jean-Jacques Waltz an Alstian artist and staunchly pro-French activist. As only the French can do he started publishing in the early 1900's satirical works making fun of the German tourists. His drawings for children's books are charming those in Le Paradis Tricolor being no exception. A work dedicated to freedom for his fellow comrade in Alsace the title bespeaks Waltz' nationalistic leadings. Patterned endpapers and board charmingly bound in striped fabric of Alsace; with evocative illustrations many of them full page. A light stain to the front board; otherwise a clean and bright copy. Mylar has been custom cut to protect the binding. Near Fine binding. H. Fleury unknown books
8430Chicago: Glad Tidings Publishing Company. Early Edition. Green cloth; 63pp. Spine ends and corners touched still a fine unworn copy lacking the presumed dustjacket. Originally issued by Henry Brothers in 1894 wrappers this is an early reprint by a small evangelical publishing house. A classic example of waltz-hysteria literature which appears to have infected American shores somewhat later than the Continent. The author a former dancing-master warns that the girl who learns to waltz is but one short fatal step from learning to boogie: ".the girl whose blood is hot from the exertion of the Waltz and whose every carnal sense is aroused.who entered the dancing school as pure and innocent as an angel three months ago returns to her home that night robbed of that most precious jewel of womanhood--virtue!" This edition apparently rare; OCLC finds no locations for any Glad Tidings edition. 16mo. Glad Tidings Publishing Company unknown books
