RARE monograph on vocal music of the Jews from the Tunisian Djerba island in Tunisia by Robert Lachmann (1892-1939), an eminent Jewish German ethnomusicologist, linguist, musicologist, orientalist and library official, who founded the center of Oriental music and the "Archive for Oriental Music" in the The Hebrew University of Jerusalem following his immigration to Palestine in 1935. Robert Lachmann was one of the leading experts in the music of the Orient, a member of the Berlin School of Comparative Musicology and one of its founding fathers, one of the few westerners to participate in the 1932 Cairo Congress of Arab Music. 240x165mm. 115 pages. br. È cosa nota che sulla melodia in quanto tale, sul suo trattamento, la sua conduzione, le sue tecniche compositive, c'è pochissimo da dire. La penuria e, tutto sommato, l'insignificanza della letteratura specifica sulla melodia, soprattutto se confrontata con l'imponente corpo di scritti dedicati all'armonia, o anche al ritmo o all'orchestrazione o alla forma, si possono constatare rapidamente e senza alcuno sforzo. Qui, ancor più che nel suo "Manuale di armonia", si misura la fecondità del metodo storicizzante di de la Motte: l'idea portante della sua pluridecennale impresa storico-teorico-didattica è che esprimersi in musica sia un processo molto meno tecnico, più in continuità con le esperienze e le capacità comuni di quanto non ci faccia credere il farraginoso, intricato e talora feticistico sistema di educazione musicale oggi in uso. Paradossalmente, il principale strumento per dimostrare questa tesi sta in una radicale storicizzazione dei procedimenti compositivi. Dunque, de la Motte non analizza la melodia, bensì come si manifesta, come si struttura, come viene inventata la conduzione melodica nelle epoche più lontane e nei contesti più svariati: dalla musica reservata alla musica leggera del novecento, dalle canzoni per bambini al melos wagneriano, dai canti popolari a Hildegard von Bingen, dal gregoriano alle melodie di Chopin, da Schubert a Ligeti, da Haydn a Puccini.
