2 vols., roy. 4to., First English Edition, with titles in red and black, with 63 fine tipped-in coloured plates, 510 plates in monochrome and decorative endpapers, fore-edges very lightly age-soiled; original red holland, upper boards blocked in gilt, gilt backs, a very good, clean set in unclipped dustwrapper, the wrapper to second volume chipped at headband (just affecting lettering). Nice set of the first English edition of the first detailed study of the iconography of Roland in sculpture, wall painting, the minor arts and, above all, illuminated MSS. First published in Brussels in 1966. Scarce in this condition.
