Overall a handsome copy of the great Mickey Mantle's memoir. Mickey Mantle played his entire eighteen-year career with the New York Yankees alongside other legendary players like Yogi Berra Joe DiMaggio and Whitey Ford. Plagued by injuries throughout much of his career Mantle nevertheless became an all-time great winning three MVP awards 1956 1957 1962 and the Triple Crown in 1956. He also helped power the Yankees to seven World Series titles. Mantle was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1974 and was selected for the prestigious MLB All-Century Team in 1999. His memoir The Mick "abounds with those memories of when Mantle was the toast of the town. More than that though it movingly recounts the private events of his remarkably public life; from his humble beginnings to his personal triumphs in and out of baseball to the tragedy that haunts four generations of his family." . Glück was taught Greek mythology and classic stories from a young age which greatly influenced her works. Glück began writing poetry in highschool eventually taking some poetry classes and attending workshops where she more deeply developed her craft. After a tumultuous life and career Glück finally began seeing wider success in her work in the 1990's. That success however came with personal pains which she channeled into her work producing a collection of essays in 1994 titled "Proofs & Theories: Essays on Poetry" 1389597. Upon his death he was memorialized by Seamus Heaney in the poem "In Memory of Bill Cole." Glück's first book; she has won the National Book Award the Pulitzer Prize and the Nobel Prize in Literature.
