This work was produced by Dölf Hürlimann publisher-printer in Zurich in 1964.<br /> <br /> Michel Seuphor's poems written from 1927 to 1963 were specially autographed by him for this occasion.<br /> <br /> The facsimile prints reproduce the exact dimensions of the original handwriting.<br /> <br /> The six bevels created by Gottfried Honegger and all other editing work were entrusted to the Thorvald Henningsen workshops in Zurich.<br /> <br /> The texts set in Caslon 14 typeface were printed on Stratmore Text USA paper.<br /> <br /> Bristol paper from Mühlebach-Papier SA in Brugg was used for the bevels.<br /> <br /> The poems spoken by Michel Seuphor were recorded on disc by Hug in Zurich. Exemplaire à l'état proche du neuf. Intérieur parfait. Quelques marques/taches sombres au dos du volume (voir photos). ÉDITION ORIGINALE. TIRAGE PROBABLE A 1.000 EXEMPLAIRES. CELUI-CI, 1 DES 12 EXEMPLAIRES SUR PAPIER DU JAPON. Le tirage de luxe est établi comme suit : 4 ex. sur parchemin, 12 ex. sur Japon (notre ex.), 20 ex. sur Chine, 25 ex. sur Renage, 55 ex. sur Seychall-Mill et 6 ex. sur papier rose, soit un total de 122 exemplaires de luxe. Les exemplaires du tirage ordinaire sont tirés sur papier vergé de type Hollande Van Gelder. Voici comment Octave Uzanne commente lui-même cet ouvrage lors de la vente d'une partie de sa bibliothèque en mars 1894 : "Quatrième et dernier volume de la série Rouveyre (avec Le Bric-à-Brac de l'Amour, le Calendrier de Vénus et Les Caprices d'un Bibliophile) ; quelques bons chapitres, mais deux ou trois vraiment faiblots. La couverture, composée par Paul Avril "est venue" imparfaitement au tirage, mais le frontispice, gravé par Géry-Bichard, d'après sa composition, est d'une grâce, d'une légèreté, d'un charme et d'une fraîcheur de pointe qui rachètent bien les imperfections décoratives des autres parties du volumes." Inscribed first edition of Swiss artist Warja Lavater's dynamic panorama charting the development of painting in the West from the prehistoric cave art of Pech Merle to Jackson Pollock. Originally a designer of corporate logos and trademarks Lavater had a genius for the symbol producing inventive artist's books constructed of minimalist graphic codes and keys. The visual narrative of Sketch.Book is a historical one focused on the disruptive figure of the painter the "Disobedient" who is represented by two eyes stacked on top of each other: "With his exterior eye he sees with his interior eye he thinks." As the centuries and millennia rush by populated by the flowing black dots who represent the Disobedient's contemporaries we see glimpses of the painter's radical power of sight: Sumerian glyphs the golden ratio medieval illuminations Renaissance perspective modern abstraction captured in flashes and fragments. "This story is history because the visions of the painter become reality." Text in French English and German. Lavater has warmly inscribed this copy: "den Ungehorsamen.Curt und Erna Burgauer / herzlich / Warja Honegger-Lavater / April 1968." Based in Zurich the Burgauers were prominent art collectors; their foundation Stiftung Erna und Curt Burgauer remains an important source of support for emerging Swiss artists. A fine inscribed copy of a representational tour-de-force with an excellent art world association. Single volume measuring 8 x 9 inches: 88 double leaves.
