Published in a small and limited first print run as a hardcover original only. Presents John Adams' "Hallelujah Junction: Composing An American Life". One of the finest memoirs by a serious composer since well Berlioz's. "Combining the narrative power of opera the atonal themes of 20th-century classical music the spooky modulations of jazz and the complex rhythms of the Beatles Adams created a new music that could express the fractiousness of the political scene of the 1960's and 1970's. Adams deftly chronicles his life and times providing along the way an incisive exploration of the creative process. Reveals the workings of a brilliant musical mind responsible for some of contemporary America's most inventive and original music" Publishers Weekly . Actually John Adams is much more than just a brilliant musical mind. By his own account Adams found his voice by fusing The Old European classical music with The New American jazz and popular music in ways that were literally unheard-of before he came along. In the process he has become possibly the greatest American composer of our time. Comes with two Compact Discs of his ground-breaking now-canonical music: "Century Rolls/Lollapalooza/Slonimsky's Earbox" Kent Nagano conducting and "Naive And Sentimental Music/Mother of The Man/Chain To The Rhythm" Esa-Pekka Salonen . An absolute "must-have" set for John Adams collectors. This copy is very prominently neatly and beautifully signed in black ink-pen on the title page by John Adams. It is signed directly on the page itself not on a tipped-in page. It comes with two 2 Compact Discs also very boldly and beautifully signed in black pen-marker in front by John Adams. This title is a great book. As far as we know this is the only such signed set of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing and Compact Discs available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean crisp and bright pristine beauties. Please note: Copies of the book available online have serious flaws are subsequent printings or are remainder-marked. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A rare signed set thus. 198396424New York November 3 1983. 1983. Fine. - Nearly 400 words typed on his 11-3/4 inch high by 8-1/4 inch wide personal stationery. In his letter Serebrier informs his friend City Center Producer Jean Dalrymple that he has "been invited to conduct a pair of concerts with the American Symphony Orchestra in November 1984." "It will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the World Premiere of the Symphony No.4 by Ives." He goes on to mention that a feature article about him is to appear in "Symphony News" magazine and asks if she could get a copy for him and perhaps interest both U.P. and A.P. to cover it. Thinking of the publicity potential of the article he suggests that Carnegie Hall Magazine or Bravo Magazine might be interested in subsequently reprinting the article. Signed "Jose". Jean Dalrymple has subsequently drawn a line through the text indicating she had read the letter. Folded in half horizontally for mailing. Near fine. <p>Jose Serebrier b. 1938 is an Uruguayan conductor and composer. He first conducted at the age of eleven with his school orchestra which toured the country. 202016113JBloomington: AuthorHouse 2020. First Edition First Printing. Signed by Jim Neglia and Bill Ecker. Hardbound as new in dust jacket. In the 1970s Frederic Schang the former General Manager of Columbia Artists Management published his collection of performing arts visiting cards in four volumes. Neglia's book is the first such book since Schang's final volume Visiting Cards of Pianists made the shelves in 1979. Neglia taking a departure from writing accounts of his life and career in the arts concentrated his efforts on a book focusing on 19th-century classical musicians via the visiting cards. It all began in 1995; while on a concert tour in Vienna Neglia visited a small shop located in the Dorotheum. The shop displayed a wide array of classical composers' autographed letters pictures musical quotes and visiting cards. It was then he began his journey to enjoy the fine art of collecting. By the year 2020 Neglia amassed one of the largest visiting card collections not only in North America but worldwide. After writing his autobiographical books Onward and Upward and Center Stage Neglia took a break from writing about the on-stage portion of his life to concentrate on the off-stage collector's side. Visiting cards were exchanged among trading partners in China as early as the 15th century. Their purpose was to announce your presence in an aristocratic or wealthy home. One would hand the printed card to the servant who greeted you at the door and the card announcing your presence was brought to the person you were visiting in another room of the home or office. Many people would save the cards as a remembrance of the people who visited their home. Visitors from the Past illustrates Neglia's passion for these relics of a time gone by while offering further insight into the private life of the talents of 19th-century composers conductors and musicians from where they originated.
