Very Good Italian Original autograph concert program signed by Carlo Zecchi as 'Carlo Zecchi, 17-4-33'. 21x14,5 cm. Bilingual in Italian and Turkish. 3, [1] p., signature on cover. Program of Zecchi (as a pianist) and Nerio Brunelli (as a violoncellist) which was performed in Constantinople (Istanbul), Beyoglu in 1933 (Lunedi17 Aprile, alle ore 21,30). The program has a decorative cover with its decorative borders and has a couple of postal stamps on its second page (One is Ottoman, one is the Republican Turkey stamp). According to the program, Zecchi and Brunelli performed Mozart, Scarlatti, Beethoven, Varacini, Boccherini, Respighi, Casella, Chopin, Dunkler Brunelli, and R. Strauss. Carlo Zecchi was an Italian pianist, music teacher, and conductor. Zecchi was born in Rome. In Berlin, he studied piano with Ferruccio Busoni and Artur Schnabel. He led pianistic courses in Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Rome, and in Salzburg. He was a highly acclaimed performer of the works of Domenico Scarlatti, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Claude Debussy, and other Romantic music. Carlo Zecchi made his Italian debut in 1920, first performed abroad in 1922, and made his first tour of the USA in 1931. In 1939 he had a car accident, which obliged him to abandon work as a soloist, although he continued playing the most demanding chamber music and conducting. He played as only as of the duo partner of the cellist Enrico Mainardi. He toured America with the Florence May Festival Orchestra in 1957 and was the permanent conductor of the Vienna Chamber Orchestra from 1964 to 1976. In his last years, two fingers on his left hand were paralyzed, yet he performed Schubert's Trout Quintet. He also taught, mostly at the S. Cecilia Academy in Rome and the Salzburg Mozarteum. Luckily several hours of Carlo Zecchi's playing were recorded, and he also made several recordings shortly before his death. His Robert Schumann, Franz Liszt, and pieces from the Baroque era, such as Antonio Vivaldi-J.S. Bach Concerto, Scarlatti, and Galilei remain unparalleled. While Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli was better known and often recorded, Zecchi represents the height of pianism to emerge from Italy. (Source: Bach Cantatas).

First Edition/First Printing. 340 pages. Rare John Adams collectible set. A pristine copy of his book and two Compact Discs CD all three signed by John Adams. The author's breakthrough memoir. One of the most valuable books on contemporary music of our time. The First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Published in a small and limited first print run as a hardcover original only. Presents John Adams' "Hallelujah Junction: Composing An American Life". One of the finest memoirs by a serious composer since well Berlioz's. "Combining the narrative power of opera the atonal themes of 20th-century classical music the spooky modulations of jazz and the complex rhythms of the Beatles Adams created a new music that could express the fractiousness of the political scene of the 1960's and 1970's. Adams deftly chronicles his life and times providing along the way an incisive exploration of the creative process. Reveals the workings of a brilliant musical mind responsible for some of contemporary America's most inventive and original music" Publishers Weekly . Actually John Adams is much more than just a brilliant musical mind. By his own account Adams found his voice by fusing The Old European classical music with The New American jazz and popular music in ways that were literally unheard-of before he came along. In the process he has become possibly the greatest American composer of our time. Comes with two Compact Discs of his ground-breaking now-canonical music: "Century Rolls/Lollapalooza/Slonimsky's Earbox" Kent Nagano conducting and "Naive And Sentimental Music/Mother of The Man/Chain To The Rhythm" Esa-Pekka Salonen . An absolute "must-have" set for John Adams collectors. This copy is very prominently neatly and beautifully signed in black ink-pen on the title page by John Adams. It is signed directly on the page itself not on a tipped-in page. It comes with two 2 Compact Discs also very boldly and beautifully signed in black pen-marker in front by John Adams. This title is a great book. As far as we know this is the only such signed set of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing and Compact Discs available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean crisp and bright pristine beauties. Please note: Copies of the book available online have serious flaws are subsequent printings or are remainder-marked. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A rare signed set thus. A very nice and rare early large photograph of the nascent Portland Symphony Orchestra which in 1911/1912 elected their conductors on an ongoing basis and their rotation of conductor and concertmaster rotation was determined by drawing lots. The 1911-1912 season featured conductors Carl Denton John Bayley Harold Bayley and Mose Christensen with the Bayley’s and Christensen alternating. The PSO typically drew from the Vaudeville houses dance theatre’s and even silent movie theatre orchestras in order to fill out their number and this photo captures 50 artists performing on the Heilig Theatre stage. At the time the newly opened Heilig Theatre sported a 2/5 Kimball Pipe Organ and would operate as Heilig until 1929 then the Rialto Mayfair and finally the Fox before being demolished in 1997.
