190195420Philadelphia: The Universal Photo Art Co. C. H. Graves Publisher 1901. Good. Gently curved cards scuffed with some staining. 20 x 9 cm. Intended to be humorous. The first card shows 2 men inviting a prospective sucker to join their card game. A missing card 43604B probably shows one of the players pulling a card out of their sleeve or trying to cheat in some other way. Our second card shows the results of a fight with only the lower portion of of one of the players legs visible through a broken window and the other original player on his knees while a policeman has his hands on that player and the deacon. 95419n.p. n.d. Near Fine. Photos mounted on curved gray card. 18 x 10 cm. Image has very good detail. Our title is neatly printed on a white strip of paper neatly mounted on the back of the card. We can find the same image on stereo cards backed on red or yellow listed online as held in a few collections but we found no cards with this image offered for sale. All of the cards found online had the titling and other verbage on the front of the card. We know nothing about chronology among these cards. We also don't know if Uncle Jack was in fact then the oldest l;iving inhabitant of St. Augustine. unknown

115320The daguerreotype was the first commercially successful photographic process 1839-1860 in the history of photography. Named after the inventor Louis Jacques Mandé Daguerre each daguerreotype is a unique image on a mirror-like silvered surface over a copper plate Daguerreobase website. André Disderi 1819-1889 obtained the rights to photograph the products and artworks at the Exposition as a distinguished daguerreotypist but his lasting fame is that he took out the first patent for the carte de visite in 1854. Ironically this inexpensive mass-produced paper photograph hastened the demise of these beautiful precursors. <p>Apart from a small amount of discolouration visible along the top edge of each daguerreotype this example is in superb condition with the original paper seal around the edges and across the back undisturbed. unknown
