Signed "George Seldes" with 1 insertion & 1 correction in ink. There is light creasing a light paper-clip mark & 2 pinholes left by a staple at top left. Folded once for mailing. Together with 2 unsigned carbon copies of letters from Harold Rugg. Good. <p>Seldes writes to Harold Rugg about travel arrangements for a talk he is to give at Teachers College of Columbia University in New York City: "The 3:30 p m train also has a bus service and I am sure the ordeal will be over by then." The first carbon copy is a letter from Rugg saying he is delighted that Seldes can meet with their luncheon group. "If you prefer to write a brief summary of the points you are making in your book on Europe in order to provoke questions from the group that will be fine." He goes on to ask about travel arrangements to which Seldes' letter is a reply. The second carbon copy is of Rugg's confirmation of the arrangements.<p>George Seldes 1890-1995 was an American investigative journalist foreign correspondent editor author and media critic. He is best known for publishing the newsletter "In Fact" from 1940 to 1950. Seldes influenced and was greatly admired by a whole generation of journalists and activists such as Washington Post columnist Colman McCarthy Nat Hentoff and Ralph Nader.<p>One of the best-known educators during the Progressive era of education Harold Rugg 1886-1960 was a professor of education at Teachers College of Columbia University. A Civil Engineer he had become interested in how students learn and pursued a doctorate in education. Very good. <p>Schiff writes to Jean Dalrymple thanking her for sending a copy of her new book "Careers and Opportunities in the Theatre" and hoping it becomes a best seller.<p>Dorothy Schiff 1903-1989 was an owner and then the leftist publisher of the New York Post for nearly forty years. She was a granddaughter of financier Jacob Schiff. She was interested in social services and reform and was involved in several welfare groups. Schiff sold the Post to Rupert Murdoch in 1976. It was believed she was pessimistic about the future of New York afternoon papers and she was also concerned about the effect of owning the paper on the value of her estate. Beige faux leather covered portfolio with dark brown titling to cover housing a 102 page revised screenplay of Schweitzer working title and promotional book with a synopsis of the film list of cast and crew with biographies and finishing with a section on the project partners. Both books are bound in beige cloth with dark brown titling to their covers. Portfolio has one light horizontal pressure mark running parallel to the bottom of the front cover otherwise the portfolio and books are in fine condition. Presumed to have been published in 2008 this portfolio is most likely a promotional piece created by the production company in order to interest international distributors and was most likely distributed at one of the international film marketplaces. Due to the lack of any film stills within the books this was most likely printed and distributed prior to any actual filming having taken place. The film was released in 2009 under the name 'Albert Schweitzer' and was directed by Gavin Millar.
