Nicholson Was An American Art Collector And Art Dealer Specializing In Native American And Chinese Handicrafts. Nicholson Acquired Artifacts For Sale But Also For Major Museums Such As The Smithsonian Institution And The Field Museum In Chicago. She Lectured About "The Indian" To Churches And Civic Groups. In Recognition Of Her Expertise Nicholson Was Elected To The American Anthropological Association In 1904. In 1924 She Designed A New Building For Her Collections Which Reflective Of Changing Fashions Had Begun To Focus On Asian Art. The Architectural Firm Of Marston Van Pelt & Maybury Worked With Nicholson To Realize Her Vision. Her Design Nicknamed The "Treasure House" Borrowed Elements From Buildings She Had Seen In China. The Building Was Opened As An Art Gallery And Shop In 1925 Although The Interior Garden Courtyard Was Not Completed Until 1929. In 1943 She Donated The Home To Found A Permanent Building For The Pasadena Art Museum Notable For Its Landmark Exhibitions Of Contemporary Art Circa 1958-1975. Fresco Was Commissioned By Earl "Madman" Muntz To Design Low Cost Housing. Muntz Invested $500000 Seed Money In The Project. Fresco 32 Years Old At The Time Along With His Associates Harry Giaretto And Eli Catran Conceived Designed And Engineered A Project House Called The Trend Home. Built Mostly Of Aluminum And Glass It Was On Prominent Display At Stage 8 Of The Warner Bros. Sunset Lot In Hollywood For Three Months. Without Federal Or Further Private Funding The Project Did Not Go Into Mass Production. This Experience Led Fresco To The Conclusion That Society Would Have To Be Changed For His Inventions To Reach Their Potential.In The Late 1940S Fresco Created And Was Director Of Scientific Research Laboratories In Los Angeles.
