A comprehensive history of all the cotton mills in Ashton under Lyne in Lancashire, about 10 miles east of Manchester, this book also provides a general survey of the development of the cotton industry in the town. Many of the mills and their workers are illustrated. The book deals with the mills established over a number of periods, from before 1805 to 1907. The book is invaluable for children doing school projects, as well as for anyone interested in the industrial history of Ashton. It also provides a vivid reminder for anyone who remembers Ashton's past as a cotton town.
