Embossed & decorated softcovers front cover decorated & illustrated in gilt & burgundy w/ peacock feather above lettering and nicely executed lithograph on back cover of young saleswoman standing next to a rack of rubber boots & shoes for sale minor toning shelfwear very slight tidemark at upper fore-edge front cover still a VG copy. First edition of this nicely printed Victorian catalogue for rubber boots and shoes. The nicely executed lithographs promote the Hip Boots hip waders thigh high sporting boots double thick Pebble Leg Boots and Fairy Boots reminiscent of cowboy boots as well as the rubber Duck or Canvas Boot for hunting. Also included are many different styles and varieties of rubber shoes for women and children including No Heel Imitation Sandals Gossamer Imitation Sandals Buskins with cotton flannel lining Opera Dew Drop Feather Weight and many others. The company also produced tennis rubber soled shoes croquet shoes as well as heavy duty Stalwart Lumbermen’s Shoe intended to fit over logger’s Wool Boots or German Socks. Leverett Candee 1795-1863 obtained early patent rights from Goodyear for manufacturing rubber shoes as early as 1844 and by 1852 had organized the large Candee Rubber Co. factory with the Hotchkiss Brothers in New Haven and Timothy Lester. The document gives the terms of the agreement including 1a the sale of "The shares and interests of the Vendors of and in the Companies set out in the Schedule . and/or other interests of the Vendors in all other foreign companies belonging to the Dunlop-Revere Emerge- Revere and Pirelli-Revere groups ." There are seven terms and a schedule which lists various companies. The document has official stamps and concludes with the Common Seals of both parties/companies and the signatures of the seven witnesses. These signatures include "Malcolm Campbell Director". The only connection with the rubber industry that I have uncovered so far is his use of Dunlop tyres in a race. 31 May 1935. unknown

Photo illustrated throughout all printed photos w/ 54 of trucks sporting General Tires 2 promotional letters. Original embossed simulated black pebbled calf post-binder brass screw posts at gutter margin raised & embossed gilt lettering & framed border on front cover minor chipping & soiling to foot of spine couple leaves w/ minor creasing couple w/ minor dustsoiling still a VG copy. First edition thus of this exceedingly scarce sales promotional catalogue for the General Jumbo Balloon Tire issued just as the country began the descent into the Great Depression. The oversize pneumatic tires developed by General Tire were first used on Ford Model T trucks and Ford Model T’s but quickly proved their durability and by the end of the 1920’s were the fastest selling truck tire in the United States. These excellent photo images provide not only references for the many companies that General Tire supplied but also the tremendous range of truck manufacturers and commercial advertising many companies sported during the 1920’s - 1930’s. Truck brands depicted in the album include REO Speedwagon Mack American-LaFrance White Wichita Fageol & more. Businesses ranged from Hemingway Bros. a moving company in Providence RI to Franklin Ice Cream Co. in Minneapolis MN along with bread trucks tankers cement mixers and others. Founded in 1915 General Tire & Rubber grew quickly adding plants in Texas Kentucky Ohio & North Carolina eventually expanding into aerospace defense contracting entertainment tennis ball production and plastics. This company manufacturers rubber and celluloid harness trimmings celluloid martingal rings and slide loops rein spreaders face pieces rubber compound harness trimmings hames light metal harness trimmings in gold silver and nickel humane bits and other specialties for the horse. All goods bear the Albright Trade Mark. Laid-in is a sheet providing discounted prices from the catalog. An old water stain on the title page that diminishes and is hardly noticeable after page 8 tiny nick to the fore-edge of first ten pages tiny closed tear to the fore-edge of title page else a very good copy of a trade catalog of accessories for the horse. 191658408Muskegon MI: Vulcanized Products Co. Ladd & Son Photographers ca. 1916. Oblong 4to. Five silver gelatin photos sized 7.75 x 9.75 in. mounted on 14 x 12 in. embossed gray studio board photographer’s imprint on versos very minor rubbing slight bumping to couple corners still a NF set of mounted photographs. These sharp industrial photographs show the early manufacturing of rubber automobile & truck tires by workers and machinery at the Vulcanized Products Co. factory in Muskegon MI. By December 1915 the company had completed the buildings and installed the manufacturing equipment for their expanded automobile tire factory. Upon opening the company was producing 200 completed tires daily and continued to ramp up later as the U.S. entered World War I. In addition they were the original manufacturer for Peninsular Tire & Rubber Co. tires later Gillette Tires before they set up their own factory in Eau Claire WI. Two of the images show women working the production line. Ladd & Son was founded originally in Detroit MI in 1872 by B.W. Ladd who later brought his son Charles Ladd 1870-1925 into the business and moved to Muskegon MI in 1891 quickly establishing themselves as popular portrait & commercial photographers in Muskegon. Goldie Ladd 1874-1931 began working the business with her husband and continued the studio after his death selling out before her death at the beginning of the Great Depression. Three parts in one vol. 6; 4 pp unpaginated. printed in red & black illustrated; 23 dittoed leaves most illustrated 1 sample leaf w/ rubberized and neoprene coated boot bellows seals mounted on rubberized canvas sheet. Burgundy-coloured split-pin flexible binder black lettering stamped on front cover rounded corners price-list & dimension sheet laid-in still NF copy. First edition of this scarce early salesman sample catalogue for bellows seal boots used to allow ball bushings to retain their lubricant and also protect moving pistons and parts on grinding or polishing machines. These proved to be especially valuable in any industrial or manufacturing machinery for excluding dirt grime shavings and material from reciprocating shafts and bearings substantially prolonging the life and durability. The company pioneered the product following World War II initially using coated canvas fabrics and later moving to teflon silicone and and even fiberglass for manufacturing. Two very scarce works on tyre brands both advertising their quality and strength written during a boom in the motor trade. Two very scarce works on rubber tyres one a pamphlet detailing how the quality of Dunlop tyres are maintained and the other a. Believed to have been published in c.1910 and c.1940. No institutional copies are available of either work. In the publisher"s original paper wraps with full-page and in-text illustrations throughout including those in colour with India Tyres. - How Dunlop Quality is Maintained: A Peep At Some of the Testing Applicances and Methods Used to Ensure the Supremacy of Dunlop Tyres. Dunlop was the first manufacturing company to create rubber tyres and still thrive as a business today. c.1910.- The Complete Range of India Tyres. A tyre company that prides themselves for long life flexibility and comfortable riding. Different types of tyre included are car tyres giant tyres earth movers agricultural and industrial. India Tyres were very successful in the 1920s and were later acquired by Dunlop in 1936. In the publisher"s original paper wraps. Externally smart with minimal marks.
