This is the original 1926 publication -- NOT print on demand edition or modern reprint. Bound in the original wraps stamped in black. This volume was among several dozen books from Temple Rice Hollcroft's library that we were lucky enough to purchase at auction in New Jersey. The American mathematician Temple Rice Hollcroft 1889 - 1967 received B.S. in 1912 and A.B. in 1914 from Hanover College and then A.M. in 1915 from the University of Kentucky. He received his Ph.D. in 1917 from Cornell University under Virgil Snyder. Hollcroft was a mathematics professor at Wells College from 1918 to 1954 from which he retired as professor emeritus. Hollcroft served for 14 years as Associate Secretary of the American Mathematical Society. In 1932 in Zurich he was an Invited Speaker of the International Congress of Mathematician ICM. His subject was THE GENERAL WEB OF SURFACES AND THE SPACE INVOLUTION DEFINED BY IT . Being invited to talk at the ICM has been called "the equivalent of induction to a hall of fame." - from Wikipedia. From the first page of this paper: "Introduction. If two surfaces 5 and Sf are in one-to one point correspondence the transformation T of S into S' establishes between the pencils of tangent lines at cor responding points of S and S' a projective correspondence. Furthermore if the line of intersection L of the tangent planes to S and S' at the corresponding points M and M' passes through neither of these points that is if neither S nor S' is a focal surface of the congruence of lines M M ' the pencils of tangent lines at M and M' cut L in projective ranges of points. The invariant cross ratio of the projectivity on L is an invariant of the transformation T with respect to the group of collineations of the three-dimensional space in which S and S' are imbedded.
