51-5610Nimes France: Ville de Nimes. Musée des Beaux-Arts 1978. Poster on paper with coating. Repairs and scratches in. lower and upper margin. Mounted on a support sheet. 87.5 x 57.5cm.Travels with a Donkey in the Cévennes 1879 is one of Robert Louis Stevenson's earliest published works and is considered a pioneering classic of outdoor literature. Travels recounts Stevenson's 12-day 200-kilometre 120 mi solo hiking journey through the sparsely populated and impoverished areas of the Cévennes mountains in south-central France in 1878.En septembre 1878 Stevenson traverse à pied les Cévennes avec pour seule compagne une petite ânesse qu’il baptise Modestine.

LIMITED EDITION - COPY No.338. RARE collection of 12 b&w silkscreen (serigraph) prints by an eminent Argentinian artist Juan Batlle Planas (1911-1966) belonging to the surrealist school, but orienting in his later phases to romanticism. Many of his works, while obscure, were sombre in feeling, influenced by social unrest and economic and political problems in Argentina. Batlle Planas was an influence on numerous Latin American painters, including Roberto Aizenberg and Dalila Puzzovio, who studied under him. The prints depict San Telmo ("Saint Pedro González Telmo") - the oldest barrio (neighborhood) of Buenos Aires characterized by its picturesque colonial buildings. 390x280mm. 12 separate plates & 12 text pages (6 unbound double pages) laid in Hardcover folder with cloth spine and string-tie closure. Prints actual size: 26x16cm printed on white framing background. Title sticker mounted on folder front cover. Folder curved. Folder strings tattered. Folder edges and corners bumped and worn/peeling. Very Good French Eight panels of panoramic photograph folded into original printed light brown card wrappers titled "Souvenir d'Alep (Syrie). / Panoramique d'Alep" and "Editeur Wattar Freres, Alep (Syrie)" on the cover. Open size: 9x112 cm. In French. Contemporarily repaired verso of hinges by tape, overall a fine copy. Scarce wide-angle black and white photo-lithographic panoramic view of one of the oldest and most important cities of the Islamic Middle East, Aleppo of Syria, taken at twilight time, in the 1920s, when the country was under the French Occupation between 1920-22. This attractive photograph was edited and also probably taken by the Wattar Brothers, who were the famous and prolific editors and photographers of Syria and Southeast Anatolia including Kilis, Aintab (today: Gaziantep), etc. The Wattar Freres' descendants were present in Syria until the early 2000s (Serifoglu). This panorama is uncommon, showing many architectural buildings peculiar to Aleppo are no longer in place after the wars, especially the ongoing Syrian Civil War.
