In 4, pp. (16) + 162 + (2 errata) con 7 tavolte f. t. incise all'acquaforte piu' volte ripiegate. Lieve ombreggiatura alle prime cc. per il resto ottimo esemplare. P. pergamena coeva con manc. ai 2 angoli inf. per il resto robusta e genuina. Edizione originale italiana pubblicata sette anni dopo la prima di Londra. Importante e non comune studio sui fenomeni elettrici e sulle macchine necessarie per realizzarli e studiarli. L'autore fu il primo a scoprire la scintilla elettrica e compi' studi sull'indice di rifrazione di vari liquidi. Molto importanti sono anche gli strumenti scientifici da lui costruiti, alcuni dei quali raffigurati in queste tavole. Dibner, Early elettrical machines, 1957, p. 16 - 19.

Tomi sei uniti in tre in-16° gr. cm. 19,2 di pp. XL-239-320; 344-352; 384-360 con complessive 115 tav. f.t. una con taglio centrale rifilato. Legature in mezza pelle coeva con titolo sui dorsi e picc. taglio ad una cerniera. Nel complesso in buone condizioni.
In 4° , leg. in piena pelle coeva, dorso con nervi (antico restauro alla cuffia sup.) ricchi fregi agli scomparti del dorso, tagli rossi, pp. XIII-(3)-739-(3). Accompagnato da 67 tavv. incise in rame f.t. Qualche lieve alone marginale, testatina e final. finemente incisi. Oltre alla teoria generale dell'ottica, la prima opera contiene la sua applicazione alla geometria e al calcolo e la descrizione dei modi per tagliare le lenti. Magnifica opera di Smith, professore di astronomia e filosofia sperimentale a Cambridge. (Cfr. Graesse, VI, 424)

Condizioni di conservazione Esemplare ben conservato con tracce d'uso e del tempo, coperta con alcune leggere abrasioni, piccole / minime mancanze a macchiette, dorso con parziale mancanza del tassello e al rivestimento in pelle, cuffia sup. con piccoli strappetti in corrispondenza delle cerniere. Interni buoni con alcune piccole leggere bruniture, alcune pagine di testo con normali ingialliture dovute all'età. Rara importante opera secentesca del celebre matematico Euclide, corredata da 408 figure incise in bianco e nero su tavole fuori testo (vedi foto). SETT161.L15544 N
