193817183JLos Angeles: Selznick International Pictures November 8 1938. Original 23 page carbon typescript on onionskin paper bound in blue cardstock studio covers. Fine condition. An historic piece showing the struggles David O. Selznick endured trying the create the best screenplay for his classic film. This manuscript written by Bradford Foote compares and points out the differences between the screenplay written by Sidney Howard with a screenplay version written by Foote. The Ransom Center at the University of Texas which holds the archives of David O. Selznick writes “In October 1938 Selznick sent the Sidney Howard script to two top MGM scriptwriters Lawrence Stallings and Bradbury Foote for help editing. The men under confidentiality had eight days to make their suggestions. Foote’s editing gave the film a happy ending destroying one of the novel’s most emotionally powerful scenes. In Foote’s rewrite Rhett does indeed leave but Mammy thrashes the famous “Tomorrow is another day!†speech telling Scarlett “Never you mind tomorrow honey. This here is today! There goes your man!†The scene dissolves to a shot of a railroad station. Scarlett corners Rhett in the car of a train entreating “Oh Rhett! Life is just beginning for us! Can’t you see it is We’ve both been blind stupid fools! But we’re still young! We can make up for those wasted years! Oh Rhett—let me make them up to you! Please! Please!†He kisses her hands and the scene fades out. Selznick considered this rewrite “awful.†Selznick International Pictures unknown

Introduction by Jimmy Demaret. D&M 40300. An exceptional association. Harry Sprague may not be the most eloquent golfer on the winter circuit but spelling and grammar are the least of his concerns. First he has to work on his putting which due to the aradic nature of the greens at Pebble Beach Cypress Point the Arizona Country Club and other Sun Belt courses is keeping him out of the money. And speaking of money Harry suspects that his current sponsorship deal—he runs a driving range from April to November for no salary in exchange for the cash to go on tour—might not be the fairest of deals. Finally there are the fans. In California Arizona Texas Louisiana Georgia and Florida beautiful women line the fairways hoping for a date with their favorite pro. But as Harry soon learns if wedding bells don’t ring the following winter he’ll have hell to pay. First published in Sports Illustrated these humorous missives from the bottom rungs of the leader board will delight duffers and low handicappers alike. Alfred A. Knopf hardcover

189054424Racine Wisconsin: Manufacturers Printing Company n. d. ca. 1890. 1890. WINDMILLS WINDPOWER. First edition. 8vo. Printed wrappers 54 2 pp. numerous detailed illustrations lithographic plates diagrams. This catalogue relates to pumping and geared windmills and fixtures for general and domestic uses The full line includes Eclipse pumping windmills Eclipse windmills for power purposes and for water supply purposes. Also there is information on pumps of various forms and windmill styles as well as water tanks of all sizes and descriptions. Helpful suggestions in the proper location of geared windmills with a reference to their several uses and a section regarding repairs and a description of parts. "The Eclipse windmill was one of the more successful designs of windmill used to pump water in the nineteenth century United States. It was invented by Leonard Wheeler a Presbyterian minister who was working among the Ojibwe on the south shore of Lake Superior. Wheeler perfected the device on his missionary homestead over nearly two decades unknown to the larger technological world. In 1866 health issues forced him to move to Beloit Wisconsin then a bustling industrial city where he was persuaded to patent the basic function of the device. Although Wheeler died before he could witness the success of his invention his sons carried on the legacy. Some of the companies that succeeded the original Eclipse Windmill Company remain viable in the 21st century. In the early 1890s Charles Morse bought shares in the Eclipse Wind Engine Company. Eventually Morse merged the interests of Eclipse with those of the Fairbanks Company as well as other enterprises organizing the combined company known as Fairbanks Morse & Co. At the turn of the 20th century the products of Fairbanks Morse & Co. including the various models of the Eclipse Windmill were sold all over the world. Eclipse windmills at the time were one of the top two brands in the United States and were also manufactured extensively in Germany. When the patent rights expired in 1901 many competing windmill companies copied the design. After World War I the Fairbanks Morse company no longer manufactured the classic wood-fin Eclipse. However they did produce several steel windmills that carried the Eclipse brand name." ---- Wikipedia Red stamp of agent L. H.
