Two volumes: Part I. – Canada; Part II. – United States. 12mos. Each volume with half-title leaf at front and publisher’s catalogue at the back. In the original printed paper wrappers. Wrappers are darkened and worn at the edges; part I has small wormhole on bottom front margin lacks back cover and has a narrow strip of clear tape on spine; part II lacks the first blank leaf good overall. The author is the army officer and writer George Warburton brother of the editor. Written during his tour through Canada Warburton describes Montreal Kingston and Toronto noting contemporary social life and political events including a history of the “rebellious movements†of 1837. His later tours described in part II include a sweep from Buffalo through Philadelphia to Washington and back via Boston to Montreal Dictionary of Canadian Biography. Scarce in original wrappers. London: Longman Brown Green and Longmans 1853. Bookplate at front endpaper of both volumes some minor foxing on a few pages at front and rear -- otherwise internally clean. Extremities rubbed but overall a very good attractive pair.<br/> <br/> Longmans unknown

Contemporary half black calf over marbled boards spines ruled in gilt with brown morocco labels marbled edges. . Two volumes twelvemo. Bookplate in Volume II bookplate removed in Volume I. Some light rubbing to boards and edges. A very good set. Apparently lacks a half-title in Volume I. The author is George Drought Warburton 1816-1857 brother of the editor who writes this based on his extensive North American travels. Warburton who served as an army officer in Montreal also traveled throughout Upper and Lower Canada to the Hudson's Bay area to New England and the Mid-Atlantic states of North America and to Oregon and Mexico. Volume I is devoted largely to Canada and Volume II largely to the United States.</p> Henry Colburn, hardcover

With the half-titles present. Original brown cloth with borders and spine stamped in blind with gilt titles. Spines heavily sunned ink name and date to front endpapers board corners and spine ends bumped and worn faint soiling and scuffing to the boards with bookseller and stationer paper label to the front board of each. A few gatherings loose or coming loose but everything still attached and clean throughout. A good to very good copy. MTL 8039. Richard Bentley hardcover
