Original French full cloth binding, beautifully decorated in gold. Ms. gift inscription from Charles H. Ford to his friend Minerva, Baden Baden, August 1879. A very nice copy of a famous illustrated book. Baden-Baden, is in Southwest Germany, in the Black Forest. It is one of Europe's most fashionable spas. The city has many parks and a large casino (built 1821-24). Baden-Baden was founded as a Roman garrison in the 3d cent. Its hot mineral springs were used by the Romans, and remains of Roman baths have been found in the city. 'Recognized by the Ministry of Education' has been added to the title in manuscript. With a few neat manuscript amendments to prices. A rear pocket (which may have been for ephemeral material) is present but empty. A rare survival.
