Gilman was an American humanist novelist writer lecturer advocate and eugenicist who served as a role model for future generations of utopian feminists. Best known for her semi-autobiographical short story 'The Yellow Wallpaper' which she wrote after a severe bout of postpartum psychosis Gilman has written works on gender and male domination that continue to maintain their relevance in today's society. In good condition with some rubbing to the spine extremities front and rear panel a small loss to the crown of the spine and light toning to the front and rear pastedown front and rear free endpaper. After serving in the Western Sanitary Commission of the military during the Civil War Newton Mann entered the Unitarian ministry and organized the Unitarian Church in Kenosha Wisconsin. Drawing a path through religion at a time when evolution was being discussed in church Mann was soon publishing books such as 'Evolution of a Great Literature' one of the best books setting higher criticism of the Bible into motion.
