In questa edizione italiana, infatti, compaiono i commenti agli aforismo del Santorio che in altre edizioni non erano stati inclusi. Questo libro è una risposta alle critiche più violente legate alle posizioni dell'autore sull'innocuità del colesterolo, sull'inefficacia delle statine e sullo spreco di risorse economiche che il loro uso comporta, calcolabile in miliardi di euro. Il dr. Philippe Even sostiene che abbassare il valore del colesterolo non implica una riduzione nel numero di decessi attribuiti alle malattie coronariche e cerebrovascolari. Molti studi finanziati da grandi aziende farmaceutiche hanno tentato di dimostrare l'utilità delle "statine" per abbassare il colesterolo e ridurre le complicanze cardiovascolari, ma nessuno di questi, secondo l'autore, ha mostrato alcuna diminuzione della mortalità per infarto cardiaco. Questo volume aiuta il lettore a prendere coscienza di una nuova dimensione relativa al colesterolo, quello che Even giudica come un nemico immaginario.
