Wirz 1823-1865 was one of two people convicted and executed for war crimes committed during the Civil War. Harry Houdini's copy with three of his stamps one each on front and rear endpapers and one on an internal leaf. His earlier 89-page pamphlet was viewed through very partisan eyes. See also The Demon of Andersonville 1865. Now twenty years later he wrote his work which brings more balance. "This work greatly expands and largely supersedes Chipman's pamphlet.". This expanded edition has an index of key names.
