New English In original Ottoman style full leather bounds. Folio. 2 volumes set: iii, [27], 698 p. reprint in Ottoman language, 40 color plts.; 700 p. transcription in Modern Turkish. Reprinted from 1732, Ibrahim Muteferrika Edition. (See Ozege for it's original: 3048.). A very heavy set. Ibrahim Muteferrika printed Katib Celebi's well-known book on geography and cosmography 'Cihannuma' in 1732 by adding a supplement containing new information on astronomy and Ottoman geography and maps, in which he relied mostly on Ebu Bekir b. Behram el-Dimaski's (d. 1691) work on the Cihannuma. The appendix in which Muteferrika explained the 'old' and the 'new' world systems produced by Tycho Brahe, Copernicus and Descartes as well as Galileo's theories of the moving bodies was extracted from Edmond Pourchot's (1651 - 1734) well-known work 'Institutiones philosophicae'. Pourchot himself was a reknowned philosopher and was elected rector of the University of Paris seven times. The text compiled by Muteferrika on the heliocentric system would represent comprehensive Turkish text on this subject for a century. Katip Celebi's book of Cihannuma (Jihannuma. View of the World) is a geographical work that makes the first use, in Turkey, of European atlases and other sources.
20 pages. Copyright 1978. "Most people view circular breathing as a gimmick, and I must admit that it is usualy approached as such in the beginning. But performers like Clark Terry, Maynard Ferguson, Urbie Green, Bill Watrous, Grover Washington Jr., Sonny Rollins, Don Menza and James Moody have proven that once mastered, it can add exciting new dimensions to wind performance. It is with this in mind that this text is written and intended." - from introduction. Above average wear to black decorated card covers which have some small tears and chips missing. All these periods, different as they were, respected the human scale, and it is this which the 20th century is ignoring.... " Six guided walks illustrate this phenomena.

223 pages. Index. Illustrated in color and black and white. "Never short of anecdotes about Walt Disney and the other early artists (or the jokes they played on each other), the authors present a funny, charming, and authoritative story of just how Disney elevated animation from jumpy stick figures acting out gags to genuine works of art that move - and, furthermore, move their audiences. In this unique volume, the authors not only fully explain Disney humor as no one else could but they lavishly illustrate - with original drawings preserved in the Archives! - the various kinds of sight gags that were used in creating the greatest body of work in world animation. This is the book that finally reveals the true key to Disney humor." - from dust jacket. Usual library markings. Above-average wear and soiling. Hinges taped. Not pretty but a worthy reading copy.
