A regular contributor to the weekly satiric magazine Punch Barry Pain was an Enligh journalist poet and humourist. This story is accompanied by cartoons by popular Victorian illustrator Tom Browne. Prior owner's calligraphic ink inscription to the recto of the front endpaper. The inscription reads 'To Minnie with Love from A. 5th May 1903'. With a blind stamp from W. H. Smith to the front endpaper. In the publisher's original red pictorial cloth binding. Externally smart. Lightly bumped to the head and tail of the spine with some marginal wear to the extremities. The cloth is a little discoloured. Internally firmly bound with bright and clean pages throughout. Very Good Grant Richards hardcover

Pain was a journalist known for his humorist writings contributing frequently to 'Punch'.Undated dated from Jisc from a copy held at the British Library.Five pages of adverts to the rear. In the original publisher's paper wraps. Externally a little worn in particular to the backstrip with loss of paper. Minor edge wear to the wraps.
