Every year, millions of people suffer from diseases caused by contaminated food and drinking - water. Worldwide, foodborne diseases take a heavy toll on human life and cause a great deal of suffering - especially among the young. Analysis shows that many causes of foodborne disease result from the mishandling of food while it is being prepared. Thus, the key to prevention is education - of professionals working in food outlets, of consumers at home and, of all who handle or prepare the food we eat. This text demonstrates how this can be achieved, by drawing on experiences and initiatives for education in food safety in various countries. Government Reference Library
