The starting point for a more thorough study on psychiatric assistance in Florence during the nineteenth century, the volume is divided into various sections that bring to light theoretical debates and institutional affairs that accompany the foundation of the hospital, its internal history, its connection with the Clinica Universitaria. This research therefore is integrated in a very fertile stream of studies on the history of mental illnesses in Florence throwing light on a question of great interest from the social, institutional and medical-historical point of view. 355 gr. 172 p.

"During the Progressive Era of the late 19th and early 20th century, eugenics was considered a method of preserving and improving the dominant groups in the population; it is now generally associated with racist and nativist elements, as the movement was to some extent a reaction to a change in emigration from Europe, rather than scientific genetics." - Wiki.
