Wood-engraved frontispiece portrait of the author. Edition limited to 350 copies, beautifully printed on fine wove paper with a border printed in blue on every page. This is a special copy printed for Dr. Paul Aime. Prospectus laid in, with a specimen etching from the book. 8vo. Attractively bound in contemporary decorated boards highlighted with gold dust. Original wrappers bound in. Top edge gilt, other edges uncut. Barely noticeable wear to extremities of binding, original wraps somewhat discolored due to contact with acidic binder's leaves, else fine. A very attractive copy of a very attractive book.

This is a very good softcover copy with just light wear. Two previous ownership marks on the inside front cover and title-page, otherwise completely clean throughout. One of the marks is a small bookplate of a well known American stained glass craftsman, the other mark is a small neat handstamp from the American Craft Information Center. Text in Catalan, Spanish, French, German and English. Illustrated in color throughout with 20 color photographs of art nouveau window designs executed in cloisonne (enamel) by Francisco Vidal, a master craftsman of this difficult and demanding technique. Also 22 black & white photographs of other decorative arts objects using this technique of cloisonne. Also 17 color photographs showing craftsmen appling the enamel to a copper lamp. 11" high X 8" wide, about 70 pages.

Il volume raccoglie una meditata scelta degli articoli che l'autore, docente di Letteratura inglese presso l'Università di Napoli "Federico II" e rinomato studioso, ha scritto per il quotidiano "Il Mattino" dal 1989 - anno in cui ha iniziato la sua collaborazione al giornale - al 2011. Benché si tratti per la maggior parte di interventi su scrittori inglesi e americani, non mancano incursioni in altre letterature (J.M. Coetzee, Yasunari Kawabata, V.S. Naipaul, Orhan Pamuk, Susan Vreeland), in cui Manferlotti mette a frutto le sue competenze - anch'esse esito di un lungo magistero - di comparatista. Numerosissimi, in particolare, i riferimenti alla letteratura italiana e a quella europea considerate nel loro insieme. Lo stile, raffinato ma mai impervio, asseconda riflessioni acute e spesso inedite sulla scrittura creativa. In tal modo la raccolta può innalzarsi al di sopra dei confini che quasi sempre chiudono analoghe pubblicazioni, proponendosi anche come una sorta di prezioso "manuale del critico".
