Celui-ci, spécialement imprimé pour "van der Vrecken de Bormans", est le n° 64, l'un des 28 destinés aux membres correspondants de la Société des Amis des Livres. Exemplaire non rogné. Paul Anatole Marie van der Vrecken, Baron de Bormans, (1859-1939?) est un diplomate, attaché à l'ambassade de Belgique à Paris. Auteur d'une biographie sur René de Kerallain, il est également un amateur de livres très actif, membre, notamment, de la Société des Bibliophiles Contemporains et du Cercle Parisien du Livre. En 1903, Il est nommé Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur.

He is best known for his illustrations of works by Prosper Mérimée Honoré de Balzac Pierre Louÿs. His art has become a comprehensive record of the costumes fashion hair design and furnishings of the Belle Époque as recorded in the Prints Cabinet of the National Library of France. Charming color illustrations of the colorful habitues of the Paris streets -- of those who ply their trade on the streets -- merchants food vendors dog walkers etc. etc. Many of these might be living in the margins of society but they have an outsized role in the theatre that is the city street and in providing a soul to the city. A genre of color plate book popular in the early 19th century that Vidal updated and made his own. 8vo. 24 by 18 cm. 132 pp. 30 hand-colored plates. Plates though printed look as if they were original watercolors. The full morocco binding with Art Nouveau ornamentation was done by a G. Champs. Its beauty is commensurate with the book's contents.
