Book presents well but on closer inspection has clearly been exposed to damp at some stage in its history mostly affecting rear board at its base. This does not affect the text which bar some spotting to the block edge is clear and clean throughout. Endpapers however are a little marked and moreso blue cloth which still has bright gilt titling to its faded spine. Good unclipped d/j toned and marled to edges moreso to rear. The first English edition of this work.'Creation' 1981 is an epic piece of historical fiction following an Achaemenid Persian diplomat of the 6th-5th century BC as he encounters numerous important and influential philosophers including the Buddha Socrates Zoroaster Confucius and Lao Tsu.'Duluth' 1984 is a novel describing both the Minnesotan city of Duluth and a television series with the same name; when the city's residents die they become characters in the television series. This is the first British edition.Written by Gore Vidal 1925-2012 an American writer and intellectual known for his wit. He challenged society norms and expectations in his writings in particular with regards to sexuality and corruption. He also ran for office as a Democrat unsuccessfully twice. His works spanned novels non-fiction plays and screenplays with the most famous of his novels being 'The City and the Pillar' 'Julian' 'Burr' and 'Lincoln'.All complete with a dust wrapper with only 'Myron' being clipped. In the publisher's original full cloth binding with dust wrappers. Externally very smart with just a little minor wear. Dust wrappers are generally in excellent condition with some slight wear to the extremities and the tail of the spine of 'Myron' which is clipped. Internally firmly bound. Although claimed on the cover to be "An Original Red Seal Novel" it's not having already or perhaps concurrently been issued in the U.S. as a Gold Medal paperback no. 311. Not even the cover art is original as this printing uses the same illustration as the American edition by the great Barye Phillips. While Vidal himself makes no reference to the book in his memoir "Palimpsest" his biographer Fred Kaplan gives it a little more respect commenting on its "many effectiveVidalian touches the setting drawn from his Egyptian experiences in 1948 a combination of hard-boiled suspense a strong love story and a political/social drama that pits the individual against a corrupt society."
