Work that offers a brief description of the Colorado River Aqueduct and the then unfinished Boulder Hoover Dam illustrated with numerous black and white views and the excellent color map. Water exhibit souvenir of the California Pacific International Exposition in San Diego 1935. "On this map we see the Boulder Dam built by the United States Government. We see the location of the great electric power transmission line that will deliver power from Boulder Dam to five pumping plants along the Aqueduct. The power will raise Aqueduct water over mountain barriers. Second printing August. 24 p. illustrated with black and white photographs and a two-page color folding map of the route of Colorado River Aqueduct. Oblong octavo. Original colorful paper wrappers 9" x 6" bound with two staples. A near fine example with just a hint of rubbing along the top edge. This pamphlet was initially prepared as a "Water Exhibit Souvenir" for the California Pacific International Exposition held in San Diego. It explains briefly how the aqueduct was built by the MWD which was formed in 1931 after voters from the thirteen cities in Los Angeles and Orange counties approved a $220 million bond issue to address the increased demand for water in Southern California's growing communities. More than 6500 jobs were created for the construction of the system of tunnels canals and conduits built to move one billion gallons of water per day. Group of nine large-format photographs depicting lumbering activities of the St. Paul & Tacoma Lumbering Company Pacific National Lumber Company and the Simpson Lumber Company. All are captioned in the negative identifying Kinsey as the photographer. Clark Kinsey and his brother Darius 1869-1945 were two of the most important photographers documenting the logging and timber industries of the Pacific Northwest. Kinsey photographed the timber industry in the Pacific Northwest for thirty years from World War I until his retirement in 1945. Ã‚Â The images here record not only the equipment & activity of the logging industry but also of the timber cutters themselves capturing their postures and expressions posed amongst the logs and machinery of their trade. Near fine in a near fine dust jacket with a few small closed tears. Sexual Behavior in the Human Female was originally published in 1953 five years after the male volume. The material presented in this book was derived from personal interviews with nearly 6000 women; from studies in sexual anatomy physiology psychology and endocrinology. The book presents data on the incidence and frequency with which women participate in various types of sexual activity. The authors show how such factors as age decade of birth and religious adherence are reflected in patterns of sexual behavior. Some measure of the social significance of the various types of sexual behavior is provided. The authors make comparisons of female and male sexual activities and investigate the factors which account for the similarities and differences between female and male patterns of behavior. As before Kinsey documented an enormous gap between social attitudes and actual practices. Also as before the book was a media sensation but this time the counterattack was so ferocious including a congressional investigation of his financial support that the Rockefeller Foundation terminated its funding. Kinsey's health deteriorated under the strain of public attack and uncertainty about the future of his institute. He suffered from heart disease and after a brief hospitalization for pneumonia died in Bloomington on August 25 1956. In his own mind his principal legacy was to have brought scientific rigor to the study of human sexuality. But as his biographer James H. Jones points out Kinsey was not only a scientist; he was a reformer who sought to rid himself of his personal sexual demons while at the same time revolutionizing the repressive society in which he had grown up.
