56 pages including footnotes and advertisements. Includes several pertinent cartoons from Vancouver newspapers of the early 1900s. "In the course of preliminary research (of the Komagata Maru incident in 1914) I discovered a true Canadian hero, William Hopkinson, an immigration inspector in Vancouver, who conducted undercover operations among Indian immigrants. It was his intelligence briefings and advice that helped stiffen the backbone of the government in dealing with the shipload of illegals. In preparation for C-FAR's rally in Vancouver to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Hopkinson's assassination by a Sikh extremist, I asked Robert Jarvis to research the Vancouver archives on Hopkinson and the events surrounding the Komagata Maru. His investigations let to this booklet. He quickly found that the strong opposition - by politicians and labour - to the Komagata Maru could be traced back to the activitiess of the Asiatic Exclusion Leage, formed some eight years before. What Mr. Jarvis has found is a long ignored and misreported chapter in Canadian history." - Paul Fromm, from Introduction. Unmarked. Light wear. Nice copy. Book

By graphical constructions are meant those geometric manipulations by which are obtained solutions to problems on nonlinear circuits, particularly those involving vacuum tubes. Analytical derivations are often in the body of the text, as in the chapters on balanced amplifiers and on detection. Much of the material here is original, and a good deal of this appeared in the 'RCA Review' and in 'Communications.' However, in many instances the discussion has been expanded and revised, as in the chapter on balanced amplifiers. Chapters include 1. The Non-Linear Circuit Problem 2. Thermoionic Vaccum Tubes 3. Elementary Graphical Constructions 4. Reactive Loads 5. Balanced Amplifiers. 6. Detection 7. Misc. Graphical Constructions. Each chapter has its own bibliography. From the Radio Communication Series. 258 pages. "On the adbication of Nicholas II Russia's new rulers found themselves confronted by a host of problems, two of which were particularly urgent. What was to be the new government's relationship to its rival in power, the Petrograd Soviet, and what was to be its position on the war and on the aims for which Russia was fighting? To a large degree the answer to the first question depended on the Provisional Government's response to the second. This in turn depended on a third: how did the Tsar's successors conceive of Russia's role and place in Europe? Expressed in the terms of 1917, should the nation still struggle for Constantinople and the reassertion of Russian preponderance in the Balkans? Or should the Russian people fight now only in defense of the revolution and for the democratic principles it proclaimed?" - from Abstract.
