Er promovirte 1666 in Basel mit der "Exercil. med. ad texl. Hb II Spidern. Hippocr. de fluore muliebri" übernahm 1667' eine Professur in Greifswald die er bis zu seinem Tode am 27. Mai 1690 bekleidete. Außser einer Pestschrift: "Consilium medicum de peste das ist gründlicher Bericht von der Pest etc.u Stettin 1683 ist er der Autor einer ; Reihe von während der Jahre 1671-87 in Greifswald erschienenen Dissertationen so: "De calido innato" "De colica" - "De tabe" - "De hydrope" - "De calculis microcosmi praeprimis renum et vesicae" - "De phthisi" - "De asthmate" - "De peste" - "De sanguine" - "De afiectt'one hypochondriaca" - "De suffocatione uteri etc." Hirsch-H. 18232472<p>New second Edition.</p><p>Two volumes 8vo pp. iii-xxii matching collation given by ICCU see below 172; 244; occasional very light spotting aside clean and fresh throughout; in contemporary vellum; gilt lettered black morocco labels on spines; light rubbing and marking but still an attractive copy.</p><p>A good copy of this uncommon translation of Hippocrates' <em>Aphorisms</em> translated with extensive notes and commentary by the Neapolitan physician Carlo Vincenti 1785-1823.</p><p>Vincenti offers a Latin text of each aphorism with an Italian translation but the bulk of the work is taken up with the footnotes containing his commentary which both reflects on the content and on the historical context of Hippocrates' writings while applying them to modern medical theory and practice referring particularly to the writings of Brown and Vincenti's own teacher Vitantinio Scattigna. The translation first appeared in 1813 and we have not been able to identify any other editions between that and the present one; both are rare.</p><p>Little is known of Vincenti; what details we have of him come from the title-page of his <em>Istituzioni di epidesmologia</em> Naples Marotta 1817 where he is described as 'Dottore di filosofia di medicina e di chirurgia chirurgo nel grande spedale degl' incurabili professore di chirurgia nel Real Collegio medico cerusico ec. ec.' that work also features a rather dashing frontispiece portrait as shown in the Wellcome's digitized copy. That appears to be his only other published work.</p><p>ITICCURMLE037115; OCLC records copies at Harvard and the Oregon Health and Science University with copies of the 1813 edition also at Harvard the NLM and Newcastle.</p> Dalla tipografia di Luca Marotta hardcover

In handsome early nineteenth-century calf with gilt-tooled spine.<br /><br />Janus Cornarius 1500-1558 was a gifted humanist scholar who edited and translated classical medical works particularly on pharmacology. Erasmus addressed him as 'ornatissime Cornari' 'oh-so-refined Cornarius' and extolled his translation of Hippocrates: 'The genius is there; the erudition is there the vigorous body and vital spirit are there; in sum nothing is missing that was required for this assignment confronted happily it would seem despite its difficulty'.<br /> Lugduni [Lyon], Antoine Vincent, 1562. unknown
