Synopsis aphorismorum Hippocratis: methodicè disposita & notationibus illustrata Zusammenfassung der Aphorismen des Hippokrates: methodisch geordnet und mit Anmerkungen erläutert. Das Buch stellt eine systematische Aufbereitung der berühmten medizinischen Aphorismen des Hippokrates dar. Tielemann ordnete die Aphorismen nach medizinischen Themengebieten methodisch um den praktischen Nutzen für Ärzte und Medizinstudenten des 17. Jahrhunderts zu erhöhen. Johannes Tilemann ca. 1605-1682 "geboren zu Wertheim in Franken studirte in Marburg Medicin wo er am 23. Februar 1636 promovirte und bereits 1637 eine ordentliche Professur erhielt. 1655 ging er nach Mainz und wurde nach seinem Uebertritt zum Katholicismus kurfürstlicher Leibmedicus. Da man ihm aber hier die Versprechungen die man ihm gemacht hatte nicht hielt wechselte er 1660 abermals sein Bekenntniß um die Stelle eines Stadtphysicus in Schmalkalden zu erlangen. In demselben Maaße wie er charakter- und gewissenlos war war er auch brutal und rachsüchtig. Als 1648 in Marburg seine erste Frau starb bezeichnete man ihn als ihren Mörder; doch konnte eine Untersuchung weiter nichts feststellen als daß er sie auf das schlimmste mißhandelt hatte. Seine zweite Frau die er 1660 in Schmalkalden heirathete behandelte er nicht besser; sie mit ihren Eltern beschuldigten ihn daß er sie habe vergiften wollen. Die Untersuchungsacten sprachen sehr zu seinen Ungunsten auch daß er sich schließlich vor Ablauf des Processes trotz hoher Caution im December 1661 heimlich aus Schmalkalden entfernte. Wohin er sich begab ist ungewiß ebenso wann und wo er gestorben ist; Ayrmann behauptet sogar daß er noch Jude geworden sei! Als Arzt wurde er gerühmt auch seiner Schriften halber vgl. über sie Strieder; doch war er z. B. auch von den großen Wirkungen eines Amuletts überzeugt das er erfunden hatte." Edited with commentary by Giacomo or Jacopo da Forlì d. 1414 this enlarged improved version is the best edition of the Aphorisms published up to that point Camerini. It was printed as part of the series of da Forlì's works which also included his commentaries on Galen and Avicenna. The Aphorisms translated into Latin by two Humanist scholars Theodorus Gaza and Nicoll Leoniceno represent "those remarkable clinical jottings Garrison and precise clinical observations with the diagnoses and prognoses for various diseases. Some of the diseases are described here for the first time such as chronic renal disease and many of the accounts are still valid. Folio 33 cm; 10 191 1 blank leaves. Woodcut Giunta device on title page. Woodcut initials. Text in double columns in roman type. Shoulder notes. In limp vellum titled in manuscript on spine; lace strips exposed; spine lining old manuscript on vellum exposed. Small holes in first and last blanks and inner margin of preliminary leaves. Some dampstaining on last 6 leaves otherwise a beautiful large wide-margined clean copy . The whole protected in custom built sturdy clamshell case with faux roundback spine covered in brown calf and titled in gilt. Armorial bookplate of John Aitken with motto "in cruces salus." Debut issue of the SFL newsletter/magazine.<br /> <br /> According to the Online Archive of California Bancroft: "The Sexual Freedom League was founded in 1963 in New York City. Julian Beck Allen Ginsberg and Dr. Leo Koch were among those on the Advisory Committee of the original group which was active in demonstrations for a wide range of causes."<br /> <br /> The original SFL was formed in NYC by Jefferson Poland in 1963 as New York City League for Sexual Freedom. When Poland moved to the Bay Area from NYC in 1966 he founded the SFL in the East Bay which was a loose-knit group with few rules little organization and no fees. After he split several others stepped in to create their own versions of the league including Richard Thorne Margo Rila and her husband Frank Esposito Rila. By 1971 several SFL chapters had formed around the US including the one Don Jackson was a member of. Jackson whose copy this is was a gay activist in Southern California who contributed to The Alpine County Project aka Stonewall Nation. In a letter responding to internal strife over Liberal and Conservative leaders in the SFL Jackson a Libertarian offered himself as a Liberal candidate for office.
