1824580Paris: De L'Imprimerie De Firmin Didot 1824. Exotic. Very Good . 4 3/8 x 7 3/8 inches. 18 pages 4 feps at front and rear. Title page with small owner's stamp of "Mr Henri Milne Edwards" the noted 19th Century zoologist 1800-1885. All page edges uncut. A little light foxing and the old endpapers are lightly soiled. Bound by John Field with binder's ticket in modern full yellow water buffalo with blind rolled borders and red spine label with gilt title and new endpapers. Provenance: Henri Milne Edwards Library of Henry and Virginia Walton Harry and Virginia Walton were lifelong residents of Covington Virginia a small town in the Allegheny Mountains. Harry was a graduate of Lynchburg College and Virginia was a graduate of the Lynchburg General School of Nursing. Although largely unknown to the general public the Waltons' reputation as collectors was widely respected in bibliophile and academic circles and items from their collection were exhibited at numerous colleges universities and art centers. After their deaths the original Walton collection was the subject of a series of very successful auctions in New York and London. John Field was an expert leather bookbinder associated with W.J.
