Zweite Auflage dieser Studie des bedeutenden niederösterreichischen Pomologen Wilhelm Albert Schleicher. - Autor, Inhalt: Als Pionier der Obstbaumveredelung betrieb Schleicher auf seinem Gut, dem »Josefinenhof« im heutigen Grestner Ortsteil Unteramt, eine Obstsortenversuchsanlage mit Schwerpunkt auf Mostbirnen, und bot er auch auch regelmäßig Baumschnittkurse für Landwirte der Umgebung an. Schleicher war zudem Mitglied der »K.k. Zoologisch-Botanischen Gesellschaft«, in deren Mitteilungen er auch regelmäßig publizierte. Seine vorliegende Abhandlung behandelt die Eignung von Säugetieren (z.B. auch Fledermäusen, Maulwürfen oder Dachsen), 44 verschiedenen Vogelarten, Amphibien (wie z.B. Schlangen) und Insekten (Käfern, Bienen, Fliegen etc.) zur Schädlingsbekämpfung. Bei Hartinger erschien zudem um 1871 eine von Schleicher betreute Serie von Schautafeln zum Thema. – Erhaltung: Der Umschlagrücken an der Unterseite mit kleiner Fehlstelle, Papierblock an den Ecken etwas aufgewellt und gebräunt, sonst gut erhalten. – Seltenheit: Gemäß OBV befindet sich in Österreich lediglich ein Exemplar des Titels in institutionellen Beständen (ÖNB, Wien).

John Christian Curwen, M.P. for Carlisle and a member of the House of Keys, was a well known agricultural reformer who founded Workington Agricultural Society which had a branch on the Isle of Man and had a major influence on the development of agriculture both in Cumberland and on the Island. His work in the field of agricultural improvement was important. As a part of the improvements at his home, Workington Hall, he built an entirely new model home farm called Schoose Farm. By his experiments, many conducted on the Workington lands at Schoose Farm he tested the art of farming in all its branches. In this report the proceedings at the Schoose Farm, from the year 1813 to 1819 are given on pp. 36-93.

The anonymous author of this volume "dedicatee his work to Sir John Sinclair, Foster Father of Agriculture... It may only have been to advise a limited public of what he thought.
