Book shows light shelf wear with a little sunning to spine and edges. Binding is solid and square, text/interior is clean and free of marking of any kind. 60 pages. The author befriended Ron Padgett and poet and artist Joe Brainard; the three went on to produce The White Dove Review, a magazine that published a number of writers associated with the American midcentury avant-garde, including Allen Ginsberg, LeRoi Jones (Amiri Baraka), and Robert Creeley. Mr. Gallup is author of Hinges (1965), The Bingo (1966), Where I Hang My Hat (1970), The Wacking of the Fruit Trees: A Poem in 13 Parts (1975), and Above the Tree Line (1976). Gallup stopped publishing for many years until the release of Shiny Pencils at the Edge of Things: New and Selected Poems (2001). Limited edition: 1/750 Rare.

A very rare catalogue of hundreds of fruit trees offered for sale by Cottin. 32 pp. Provides a full description of each tree and its fruit. An association copy from the collection of Comte Hippolyte de Castillon de Saint-Victor (1830-1898), who assembled a celebrated library in the field of botany (his signature on front wrapper). Several neat, contemporary manuscript additions. Small 8vo. Original wraps. Wraps worn but complete. Internally very clean. Extraordinarily rare: I have located no other copies.

Volume I covers 1515-1849 while Volume II spans 1850-1950. Volume I is 40 pages plus a large collection of black and white plates. Volume II is 37 pages plus another large collection of full-page black and white plates. Inclusions in this work are restricted to painters for whom, in at least one known painting the inclusion of representational flowers, fruit or still life has been of major importance. This definition allows the inclusion of many of the almost unknown illustrators who, working for scientific or horticultural publications have nevertheless served the two masters - Art and Science.
