In questo contesto Cipriano compone L'unità della Chiesa, il primo trattato della cristianità antica su tale argomento in cui l'Autore ribadisce ricorrendo a numerose immagini bibliche le due caratteristiche - unicità e universalità - che, per esplicita volontà di Dio, la Chiesa deve avere. Dalla necessità, invece, di istruire i pagani appena convertiti e battezzati, Cipriano scrive intorno al 251 La preghiera del Signore, un breve trattato sul "Padre nostro". Prendendo come punto di riferimento una precedente opera di Tertulliano sulla preghiera anch'essa destinata alla catechesi, Cipriano sottolinea l'utilità della preghiera nei momenti della persecuzione e la necessità che i cristiani siano unanimi e vivano in comunione durante la preghiera. Apparentemente semplice e "priva di pretese", tale operetta si rivela ricca di sensibilità e di saggezza e conosce una straordinaria diffusione fino a diventare l'esegesi di riferimento della preghiera cristiana per eccellenza.
