Very Good Turkish Original wrappers. Cr. 8vo. (20 x 14 cm). In Turkish with Latin letters. 64 p., 1 portrait, 2 unnumbered b/w plates. First and only edition of this rare and early first and only separate travel account to Australia by a Turkish traveler in Turkish literature. Mehmet Osman Bey, (1878-1940?), was a son of Miralay Ahmed Bey, and the grandson of Emin Pasha who was the head doctor of Sultan Murat V. Mehmet Osman Bey, who circumnavigated the world in 1910, continued his journey across India, Sumatra, Java, Malaga, the Archipelago, Japan and China until the fourth month of the World War I. After arriving in Australia, he wrote his travel notes and later on was taken as a civilian prisoner by the British Army in Australia and was sent first to India and from there to Egypt. According to Demiray's preface, he was blind after returning to Turkey. This book includes two plates showing farmhouses in Australia. He described in his book Australia's educational, farming and medical systems as well as the topography of the land, the customs and rituals of the natives, their traditions of hunting, and the largely indigenous population in Queensland and the native camps outside Sydney. One of the purposes of publishing this book in the early Republican Turkey period was to examine the welfare level and systems in other countries in accordance with the conjuncture of the period. In 16° (cm 9,5 x 16,7), legatura in piena pelle, dorso rifatto, con titoli e fregi dorati, tassello, pp (13)-14-303, (9); nel testo nove incisioni, raffiguranti monete romane descritte, frutto di ritrovamenti archeologici; esemplare in buone condizioni, (bruniture, firma al frontespizio "Dorning Rasbotham", il celebre scrittore, antiquario, artista [1730-1791]), di edizione del celebre manuale per viaggiatori britannici resoconto dei viaggi in Italia del saggista, poeta e uomo di lettere inglese Addison (m. 1719), archetipo del genere, traboccante di paragoni (spesso affatto lusinghieri) tra gli italiani di oggi e quelli dei secoli passati, descrizione pittoresca di famose rovine, rigorosamente circoscritte all'epoca classica, con citazioni di passi di autori classici ed antichi che li lodarono e descrissero, pubblicato per la prima volta mentre l'A. si trovava ancora in viaggio; un misto di satira anticattolica, visione ironica degli italiani suoi contemporanei, e immoderato amore per la classicità. Troviamo ancora negli "Index Librorum Prohibitorum" di fine '800, la traduzione francese, "Remarques sur divers endroits d'Italie", messa all'Index nel 1729 ed ivi rimasto per la feroce satira che l'A. dispiega, condita di paradossale umorismo inglese, contro la Chiesa di Roma di tutti i tempi, nel lungo capitolo sulla Città Eterna. Louis Bertrand (1866-1941), professeur agrégé, qui enseigna notamment au lycée d'Alger, était passionné par l'Orient. Il fut élu à l'Académie Française en 1925. Français

(più volte ripieg.) che riportano i vari itinerari nel corso della missione del Lt. Colonnello de Burthe d’Annelet nell’Africa Francese. Esemplare molto ben conservato.
Querformat. (ca. 13,1 x 18 cm). 5 Photographien. Original-Photographien, mit weissem Bildrand, Rückseiten mit Beschriftung (Bleistift) und zweimal mit Namensstempel. Photopapier minimal wellig, vereinzelt leicht verblasst, insgesamt gut erhalten. Altersentsprechend guter Zustand. Die Photographien aus dem Besitz des deutschen Geographen, Forschungsreisenden und Kolonialpolitikers Georg Hartmann liegen in einem größeren Format und auf festem Photopapier vor. Die historischen Aufnahmen zeigen Ansichten aus dem Nordwesten Namibias (damals: Deutsch-Südwestafrika), wo Hartmann in den Jahren zwischen 1893 und 1908 eingesetzt war. Er war dort unter anderem für die 'South West Africa Company' tätig, mit dem Ziel verschiedene Gebiete dieser deutschen Kolonie wirtschaftlich zu erschließen. Die Photographien sind wie folgt auf den Rückseiten beschriftet (mit Bleistift): Wasserstelle Gamgamas (Uniab) / Teilwasserfall Kunene. östl. Swartboydrift / Ugabtal mit ... / Am Hochgebirge des Kaokoveld. Wasserstelle Gans / Kontakt: Granit-Schiefer bei Geioms (südl. Kaokoveld). Zwei der Photographien enthalten auf der Rückseite einen Stempel von Hartmann: Dr. Georg Hartmann / Frankfurt (Oder) / Fürstenwalder Straße 46. Diese wurden scheinbar zu späterem Zeitpunkt aufgebracht, denn erst in der NS-Zeit verlegte der einstige Forschungsreisende seinen Wohnsitz dorthin. Möglicherweise hat er zu dieser Zeit (im Alter) sein Archiv geordnet, wobei der Großteil seiner Afrika-Sammlung später offenbar dem Kriegsverlauf zum Opfer fiel. Die historischen Aufnahmen stammen also noch aus der Zeit des deutschen Kolonialismus, vermutlich wurden sie sogar schon vor 1908 gemacht. Alle fünf Aufnahmen gehören definitiv zusammen, die Handschrift (mit Bleistift) ist identisch. Seltene historische Photographien aus der deutschen Kolonialgeschichte im späteren Namibia!

Pubblicata in 80 volumi nel formato in-16, questa celebre raccolta di viaggi è dedicata a "ce qu'il y a de plus remarquable .. dans les pays où les voyageurs ont pénétré: avec les moeurs des habitans, la religion, les usages, arts, sciences, commerce, manufactures, etc.. Enrichi de cartes géographiques et de figures". I volumi 30 e 32 contengono: "Voyages des Hollandois et des François aux Indes Orientales" e la descriz. dell'isola di Java, di Goa, delle Maldive, di Ceylon e di Madagascar. Sono molto ben illustrati, e completi come da Indice, da: "4 carte geografiche", più volte ripieg. (isles des Maldives - environs de Batavia - isle de Ceylan - isle Mascareigne) e da "13 tavv. f.t.", anche ripieg., che raffigur. usi, costumi, cerimonie di Ceylan; vedute e piante di Goa e di Batavia; piante e frutta del Madagascar, ecc., tutte inc. in rame.
