Burns issued the poems at the age of 27 in order to raise passage money for a voyage to Jamaica where he had been offered an agricultural post on a plantation. At a time when his contemporaries were searching for the "natural bard" and in the process had unearthed poetical threshers poetical milk maidens and poetical cobblers the charming plowman Burns delivered his simple and beautiful lyrics with most propitious timing. He found himself famous almost at once and his fame has not faltered over time even though after the appearance of the present work he did little during the rest of his life except write songs and drink. The very attractive binding is the work of one of the longest-lived English binderies. Robert Riviere began as a bookseller and binder in Bath in 1829 then set up shop as a binder in London in 1840; in 1881 he took his grandson Percival Calkin into partnership at which time the firm became known as Riviere & Son. The bindery continued to do business until 1939 when it was acquired by George Bayntun of Bath a firm that is still producing fine work and is still in family hands. Printed for A. Strahan; T. These satirical considerations of Parisian society pell-mell do not possess a continuous narrative; the work would pave the way for Montesquieu's Persian Letters. It is one of its principal sources. Cest donc sous ce nom quil convient de considérer lidentité de lauteur derrière ce récit populaire, largement diffusé via la Bibliothèque bleue dès le début du XVIIIe siècle. Ce livret est un exemple caractéristique de la littérature populaire diffusée par colportage, souvent sur la thématique allégorique et morale ; Misère y est personnifié dans un récit à portée symbolique. Lhistoire a connu une diffusion importante, avec de nombreuses éditions locales (Rouen, Troyes, Caen, Falaise, Bruyères), souvent sous des formats similaires et pour un public populaire. Le thème de la danse macabre ou de la mort personnifiée est fréquemment évoqué, ce qui situe luvre dans une tradition médiévale prolongée dans la culture populaire jusquau XVIII siècle. In den frühen 1680er Jahren ging er nach Paris wo er vor allem durch die Verordnung eines Geheimmittels der südamerikanischen Brechwurzel gegen rote Ruhr bekannt wurde. Nachdem auch der französische König durch diese Arznei geheilt worden war eröffnete Helvétius 1688 den Namen des Geheimmittels und erhielt dafür eine Belohnung von 1000 Louis d'or. Le Miroir des Urines “The Mirror of Urines†reflects the persistence of humoral medicine well into the Enlightenment offering a structured guide to identifying diseases through color consistency and other visible properties. Drawing on both ancient authorities and more recent physicians the work attempts to systematize bodily diagnosis through observable fluids linking urine characteristics to temperament internal imbalance and specific illnesses.<br /> <br /> This third edition revised and expanded by the author includes an organized index and detailed classifications of symptoms and conditions ranging from fevers and obstructions to more specific ailments. The text is printed in French and intended for both practitioners and educated lay readers illustrating how medical knowledge circulated beyond strictly academic circles. Light tanning else internally clean. Very good. An exceedingly rare work printed at the University of St. Thomas in Manila the first university in Asia providing instructions to the Order of Dominicans in the Philippines for the completion of their various religious duties. A second work on the privileges allowed to various members of the order and those accorded to natives is also included with continuous foliation. Del Rio was a Dominican who had arrived in the Philippines in 1713. He worked primarily in the town of Pangasinan eventually became the Procurator General of the provincial order and is known to be the author of one other work an account of a small Philippine mission also from 1739. The Dominicans first arrived in the Philippines in 1587 and used Manila as the base of their operations in Asia and the Pacific.
