In questo saggio l'A., direttore del Museo Nazionale di Rio de Janeiro, dichiara apocrifa l'iscrizione fenicia che era stata scoperta nel 1872 a Parahyba e che avrebbe fornito l'ipotetica prova dell'approdo in Sud America dei Fenici. Netto aveva infatti pubblicato nel 1874 la traduzione dell'iscrizione attribuendola ai Fenici.
