1912021358London: The Mining Magazine 1912. Originally published 1556. This is the first English translation. Thick folio pp xxxii 637 iii the untrimmed edges a little age-toned otherwise very clean inernally illustrated with many stunning woodcuts of early mining processes original full vellum possibly partially rebacked with the front joint only in which case the original endpapers have been retained age-toned scuffed and marked and a little soiled the corners worn. Compared to the pristine whiteness of some copies I actually prefer the look of this copy - it feels 16th century !! The translation by the future president of the United States and his wife took five years to complete. The numbered edition was apparently originally intended to run to 3000 copies though possibly less were actually produced. This copy is numbered 1623. First English edition. Vellum. Good.
