NO owner's name or bookplate. Pages are fresh crisp clean and unmarked -- apparently never read. NO underlining. NO highlighting. NO margin notes. Colorado Plateau Series Book 2. Bound in the original full color full wraparound pictorial wraps a Grand Canyon photo lettered in white. Oversize Softcover. 8.5" wide by 11" tall. This large book may require SUBSTANTIAL extra postage for International shipments but only the standard charge for priority or media mail. From the publisher: "From the rim to the Colorado River the Grand Canyon is analogous to a time machine that begins about 250 million years ago and ends close to the two-billion-year benchmark. Thus hiking down the South Rim's Bright Angel Trail to the bottom of the canyon 10 miles/16 km for every step taken the hiker in effect is going back in time some 2000 years! Given the narrative and metaphor of the factual and informative subject matter presented throughout the text the Grand Canyon's essential information is explained in a simple direct approach to understanding: geology and specifically the particulars of how and when the Grand Canyon became a canyon; flora and fauna; prehistoric to contemporary human history; popular hiking trails both rims; Colorado River ecology; recommended things to do and see in Grand Canyon Village; an instructive primer about the Colorado Plateau Province of which the Grand Canyon is dubbed its crowning jewel; and other relevant subject matter. Utilizing the Grand Canyon Village's timeline trail along a marked walkway to the east of the village the unfolding narrative presents common details in an uncommon way. Specifically a demotic style of writing that changes the academics of geoscience and natural and human history into casual parlance. The narrative therefore feigns a guided tour only in a literary style while explaining the canyon's many facets of information without sermonizing. Moreover the topics discussed along the way are presented at select vista overlooks that break up the subject matter. This way the reader is not overwhelmed with too much information all at once. Given this layout and piecemeal presentation of facts and details the text is a reader-friendly composition that engages and enlightens readers. The account of what there is to see and know beyond the scenery has also been exhaustively researched for accuracy using a National Park Service heuristic teaching standard as based on an interpretive style of explanation. Thus the how-what-where-when and why factors.". Second Edition. Oversize Softcover. Near Fine condition. Illus. by NOT a library discard. 260pp. Great Packaging Fast Shipping. Upon DeGolyers retirement in 1932 at the young age of 46 financial institutions and oil companies continued to call DeGolyer ceaselessly seeking advice based on his scientific professionalism and non-provincial perspective. Faced with the inevitability of an increasing demand for reliable realistic consultation DeGolyer prevailed upon MacNaughton to join him in the first petroleum consulting organization to provide services on an international scope. Together the two men forged a firm that would become the petroleum industrys most sought-after advisor.". First Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine condition.
