1820028564Ipswich: A. Dorkin printer 1820. Octavo. 37 pages. The only copy recorded in OCLC is in the British Library Reference Collections. John Eddowes Sparrow and James Thorndike have issued a defense against political slander both in the print of the Suffolk Chronicle and the town. They note that paupers at Oxford had voted for Messrs. Crickitt and Round but had kept these machinations secret. The Sparrow family which had continuously lived in the great house built in 1567 considered these charges malevolent. A very fascinating read of Ipswich before the rise of William Haldimand and the Reform Act of 1832. Extract bound in plain brown wraps. A. Dorkin (printer) unknown

18672250099Baltimore MD: Innes & Company 1867. Hardcover. Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details: hardcover blue cloth boards stamped in blind with gilt to spine. Also included in the book is a 19th-century photo of Bishop Meade from the H. B. Hull's Fine Art Gallery of Parkersburg West Virginia. The photo has spotting on both sides along with pinholes in the corner and top center where was likely pinned to something and appears to be a previously unknown image of the bishop. The book itself shows some spotting and soiling on the exterior along with some edge and corner bumps/wear. The interior binding is good at the boards but there is pulling in numerous spots and a crack is present between the two frontispiece images. The front end page contains the names of the original owners who are mother and daughter. This page contains the signatures of Susan Meade Hedges 1839-1913 originally married to Philip Carmine VanMetre and also her daughter Mary VanMetre Faulkner 1860-1931 who had married Oliver Faulkner of the Faulkner family in Winchester WVa. This book was part of the Faulkner estate that was purchased in the 1970s and was packed away. It is unknown the connection to the Bishop Meade if any.

Innes & Company hardcover
