ill., br. Questo libro è soprattutto un atto d'amore nei confronti di due nomi popolari ma al tempo stesso dotati di vaste zone di penombra. Lewis e Williams vengono accostati con alcuni indubbi parallelismi (la "serietà" dei loro ultimi lavori, ad esempio, oppure l'essere costretti a esibire in pubblico almeno una parte del repertorio per il quale erano noti al grande pubblico), ma in questa direzione non si insiste più di tanto. Anche perché questi autori non consentono una sintesi del fenomeno della comicità autoriale hollywoodiana: hanno traiettorie molto personali, hanno origini diverse, non hanno fatto scuola, non provengono dalla scuola. Ecco, Robin e Jerry sono di fatto due macchine celibi. Possono essere autori di performances straordinarie (fa molto piacere che per Lewis si ricordi lo straordinario One More Time e per Williams la definizione struggente di "serial Killer" fornita da Terry Gilliam in un necrologio sorprendente e struggente) che possono a loro volta richiamare altre performances, ma rimangono completamente unici e irripetibili. Queste vite parallele del terzo millennio ci propongono due autori dei quali pensiamo di sapere molto e che invece ci accorgiamo di conoscere solo superficialmente. Merito di un lavoro veramente approfondito, in cui la passione e la scientificità non si elidono ma si arricchiscono a vicenda. Cosa rara, nella saggistica cinematografica.
