'Lodge (1860-1953) was an outstanding artist, rivalling Wolf and bettering Thorburn in his ability to paint birds of prey. Some of his best work was reproduced in the twelve volumes of Bannerman's 'Birds of the British Isles'. With this work he achieved his life's ambition to draw all our native birds' (Jackson).
