In 1647 the Neapolitan fisherman Masaniello initiated a popular revolt against Hapsburg hegemony. The so-called Neapolitan Republic would only last into April 1648; this diary details these chaotic and bloody years of the revolt and return of Spanish control. Text in Italian. Foxing throughout; front hinge of Vol. I cracked but holding well. Wear to the edges of the boards surface wear to the extremities of the spine. Vol. II Part 2 is stamped '4' on its spine.
