1869001045Philadelphia: Porter & Coates 1869. Irish writer Regina Maria Roche 1764-1845 is today considered minor Gothic novelist but she was incredibly popular in her day. This is her most famous novel. Originally published in 1796 it went into many editions by several publishers. This is a Very Good copy of the First Edition Thus by Porter & Coates which is commonally held by institutions but somewhat scarce inthe marketplace. Illustrated by F.O.C. Darley. 646 pages. Green cloth binding with gilt lettering and blindstamping. Slightly cocked; a bit of wear at the edges. Pages are toned but quite legible. This is a Very Good Plus copy of the First Thus Edition by Routledge reasonably scarce and with no institutional holdings. 585 pages still bright and supple some foxing throughout. In an attractive Victorian decorative binding: red cloth with embossed designs in black and gilt. Contemporary ownership signature on FFEP and a Christmas gift sticker on the front paste-down. No publication date but the contemporary inscription indicates 1882 earlier than presumed by other booksellers. No dustjacket; in an archival plastic protector. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. D'abord disciple de Broussais, Louis-Charles Roche (1790-1875) fut l'un des premiers à revenir à la "médecine hippocratique" et joua un rôle pondérateur dans la querelle qui eut lieu entre Broussais et Laennec. Toute la partie médicale de cet ouvrage est de lui. Louis-Joseph Sanson (1790-1841) fut nommé en 1836 professeur de clinique chirurgicale en remplacement de Dupuytren dont il fut l'élève. Les Nouveaux éléments, dont il a rédigé toute la partie chirurgicale, est son principal ouvrage. Il est réputé pour son procédé de lithotomie recto-vésicale, décrit et publié par son maître en 1836.
