From a series of English-translated works of Anatole France edited by Victorian publisher Frederic Chapman. With the publisher's original unclipped dust wrapper unpriced. Undated dated from identical copies held institutionally. With twenty-four pages of the publisher's advertisements to the rear. 'The White Stone' by French poet journalist and novelist Anatole France follows a French men's discussion about the world's state. The views explored reflect the author's own sharing his usual topics of interest such as colonialism religion and racism. The books ends with an interesting prediction of the rulers of a future race. With a contemporary ink inscription dated 1911 to the front free endpaper "souvenir amical de Charles Emile Roche" referencing the translator of this work. In the original cloth binding. With the original unclipped dust wrapper unpriced. Externally smart with fading to the spine cloth and slight bumping to the extremities. Dust wrapper is also smart with edge wear and a couple marks. Overall in an impressive condition for its age. Internally firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean save for the contemporary ink inscription to the front free endpaper. Also some information on growing crops such as rice and broom corn. All in all an interesting newspaper for its day. This item has had detailed work by a master paper conservator as it has been deacidified a few small portions have been mended with Japanese paper and any tears or paper loss have been infilled. It has been housed in a transparent polyester "Mylar" sleeve to protect against dirt and handling. A very good and serviceable copy.
