In 1908 the owners of the Poodle Dog the Old Poodle Dog John Bergez Restaurant and Frank's Rotisserie merged their businesses opening Bush Street and Claude Lane under Lalanne with partners Jean B. Pon Jean Bergez Louis Coutard and Camille Mailhebeau. The restaurant now boasted five floors; the top floor offered a ballroom. A side door mimicked the earlier establishment with a birdcage elevator that took the men and their "companions" upstairs. They brought the elegance of the Nineties back to San Francisco as the Bergez-Franks Old Poodle Dog. The cuisine reflected the skills of some of the finest French chefs in the city but also included innovations unique to San Francisco. No marks or inscriptions to contents. A very clean very tight copy with bright unmarked boards, rear cover only well foxed and no bumping to corners. Dusty dust jacket not price clipped or marked with minor creases/rubbing to some corners and spine incomplete and torn 122pp. The author's biography of her dog, a poodle called Coco - a story as far as she could get from her well-known role as film critic of the Sunday Times. The pieces include menus postcards wine lists business cards and labels for various proprietary wines and liquors. More than fifty different pieces in all. A few of the pieces are for Camille's Restaurant which was run by Camille Mailhebau - one of the Poodle Dog's owners - after the Poodle Dog closed in 1922 a victim of Prohibition. The menus and wine lists are rich with detail and include menus for private functions and celebratory holiday dinners. Overall condition is very good to fine. unknown books
