Scarce.Sir Julian Goldsmid 3rd Baronet 8 October 1838 – 7 January 1896 was a British lawyer businessman and Liberal later Liberal Unionist politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1866 and 1896. Goldsmid was the son of Frederick Goldsmid and his wife Caroline Samuel. His father was a banker and Member of Parliament for Honiton. Goldsmid was educated privately until he entered University College London. In 1864 he became a fellow of University College and was also called to the bar. Scarce.Richard Plantagenet Campbell Temple-Nugent-Brydges-Chandos-Grenville 3rd Duke of Buckingham and Chandos GCSI PC DL 10 September 1823 – 26 March 1889 styled Earl Temple until 1839 and Marquess of Chandos from 1839 to 1861 was a British soldier politician and administrator of the 19th century. He was a close friend and subordinate of Benjamin Disraeli and served as the Secretary of State for the Colonies from 1867 to 1868 and Governor of Madras from 1875 to 1880. Buckingham was the only son of Richard Temple-Grenville 2nd Duke of Buckingham and Chandos and was educated at Eton and Christ Church Oxford. He joined the British Army eventually rising to become a colonel. Buckingham entered politics as Lord Chandos in 1846 when he was elected unopposed from Buckinghamshire as a candidate of the Conservative Party. Buckingham served as Member of Parliament from 1846 to 1857 when he resigned. He contested a re-election in 1859 but lost. Buckingham served in various political offices during his tenure. In March 1867 he was appointed Secretary of State for the Colonies and served until December 1868. He also served as Governor of Madras from 1875 to 1880. As Governor he handled the relief measures for the victims of the Great Famine of 1876-78. Buckingham also served as Lord of the Treasury Keeper of the Privy Seal of the Prince of Wales Deputy Warden of the Stannaries Deputy Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire Chairman of the London and North-Western Railway member of the Imperial Privy Council Lord President of the Council and chairman of the committees in the House of Lords. Scarce.George Robert Charles Herbert 13th Earl of Pembroke 10th Earl of Montgomery 6 July 1850–3 May 1895 known as The Lord Herbert of Lea from 1861 to 1862 was a British Conservative politician. He was Under-Secretary of State for War under Benjamin Disraeli between 1874 and 1875. Pembroke was the eldest son of Sidney Herbert 1st Baron Herbert of Lea only son of George Augustus Herbert 11th Earl of Pembroke by his second wife Catherine née Countess Woronzow. His mother was Elizabeth Herbert Baroness Herbert of Lea daughter of Lieutenant-General Charles Ashe A'Court. Vincent Brooks Day & Son Lith. Scarce.Sir Reginald Hanson 1st Baronet JP DL FSA 31 May 1840 – 18 April 1905 was Lord Mayor of London and a British Conservative Party politician. The son of Samuel and Mary Hanson née Choppin Reginald was educated at Tonbridge School Rugby School and Trinity College Cambridge MA LLD. The then headmaster of Rugby School Dr Frederick Temple later Archbishop of Canterbury said of Hanson on his departure "I have a most sincere and warm regard for him. The manly desire he shows to get rid of his faults and to do his duty will always deserve the respect of all who know him. There are a few from who I part with so much regret at my own loss". Indeed this sense of duty was upheld and he held numerous positions of public office. Following graduation the young Reginald joined the Commercial Union Assurance Company now part of Aviva plc which was previously co-founded by his father Samuel. Within a year he was appointed to the Board of directors where he remained until 1882. By this time he had already joined the family wholesale grocery business Samuel Hanson & Son Limited. He held a number of civic posts notably as an Alderman of Billingsgate London from 1880 and Sheriff of London and Middlesex 1881-82. From 1882-85 Hanson was a member of the London School Board. In 1886 he was elected Lord Mayor of London during which time Queen Victoria celebrated her Jubilee year. In 1887 Sir Reginald entertained Her Majesty at the Mansion House where he was created a Baronet by her having previously been knighted. Guests that day included the explorer Henry Morton Stanley and Judge Thomas Hughes author of Tom Brown's Schooldays. Conservative Member of Parliament for the City of London from 1891 to 1900 Hanson was also an Honorary Colonel of the 6th Battalion Royal Fusiliers City of London Regiment. He died in 1905 and is buried in Highgate Cemetery leaving behind two sons Gerald Sir Gerald Stanhope Hanson 2nd Baronet Francis Sir Francis Stanhope Hanson - Knight Bachelor and two daughters Violet and Maud.
